in my 96 i was able to just use a voltmeter to find the wire that dims with the dash to hook up the lights for my pyro and boost gauge but i have searched all over on my dads 04. 5 for that wire and cant find it so we still havent installed his gauges yet anyone that installed there gauges what wire and where did you pick it up for the lights on your gauges

I use a test lite and turn the dimmer switch while probing fuses , then that got me close to go for back side of fuse pannel to use a scotch lock , get on load side of fuse.
 
you can pop the dimmer switch panel off [it just snaps in iirc] and there are 2 orange wires going to the switch... [i can't remember the wires #'s] and you can just back pin them with a ohm meter and measure the voltage... that is what i did... somehow i am thinking #12&#13 are the wires, but look it up in a manual first... [and if you don't have a manual, you can download the 04 from hemitruckclub.com, doesn't cover the 04. 5 engine, but the electrical should be the same]
