I was driving through Eastern Oregon on Monday 6/25 when i lost my Lift Pump. I was 10 Miles North of La Grande, OR. in a canyon without cell service. Sitting on the side of the road with the flashers on and the hood up. Must have counted 2 dozen CTD pass me by, before the CHEVY pulled over to offer help. Drove me back to town to bye a Fuel Filter, and returned me to the truck. Filter didn't work, so he siad that he would call a tow when he got cell service, which he did. I am thankful there are still nice guys out there!!!Oo. Scott

I pull horses a lot on the open road and I ALWAYS stop if I see someon broke down with a horse trailer. Quite honestly, I would have stopped to help you too if you were in a CTD, but the fact is, you don't see to many CTD's along side the road!!:-laf

There was a fellow who was pulled over on the shoulder of a busy road in Hesperia. I stopped and asked if he needed help. He said he had help coming and thanked me. I went on my way.

I will offer to help someone, but I will certainly depend on the location. A motorist stopped to help someone near the Cajon Pass and the good samaritan was found dead.

That's why having a concealed weapons permit is good... . but you have to carry the weapon for the permit to do you any good!

The folks that stopped said the same thing about not seeing too many CTD's on the side of the road. It is always an inherited risk when you stop too help someone in need. I always Feel if you play it forward, it will be returned... Scott

It's sad to have to evaluate whether your walking into an ambush. I do tend to stop, however. A couple weeks ago we ventured 25+ miles from civilization on one of the zillion semi-crude dirt roads in Az. This was certainly not a Jeep trail by any means, but pretty rough. On the way back down the mountain and toward the interstate I caught up to a guy in a 1/2 ton Ford, and as we rounded a blind corner and crested a hill the road opened up to reveal a Pathfinder up on a jack with the hatch up and the guy sitting inside. The dope in front of me didn't even slow down and totally enveloped the poor guy in a cloud of dust#@$%!. I rolled up and asked the guy if he was OK, and he said someone had taken his tire to the nearest town to get repaired/replaced. I made sure he had enough water, since it was about 112'F, and he thanked me and said he did. It didn't take any more than 30 seconds out of my day to do the right thing and make sure someone wasn't going to drop dead sitting there.

erro to the side of caution, look it over and if you dont like it or where its at just keep on going. you can use your cell to call a state patrol or county mounty and be of help that way. once when i was an officer i stoped to help two boys and a girl stalled in an elcamino. after a mintuer or so things just didnt seem right and i called the sheriff dept. the car was stolen, there were guns in the car and they had just commited two burglaries. you just dont know who they are and if your family is with you think twice. robert

Just as a general precaution, I always tell someone not traveling with me where I am going and the route I will be taking. That way if I don't make it, they know where to come looking. I also upgraded to a Living quarters horse trailer. THat way at any time I have 50 gallons of water for the horses and 50 for myself with food, water, and generator... :-laf
