Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) HELP! Fuel Shutoff selenoid

This problem is driving me crazy! I have a 95 and it start spuradically. Sometimes it start right away and sometimes it takes 10 try's. I have replaced the Shutoff selenoid, and the starter contacts and still same problem. I am sure its something simple I just don't know were to look. Please help before I am forced to buy a powerstroke. God Forbid!

You got a relay in there to check, also ignition switch could be going bad. Just to name a few other things to check. I have a 95 also and their starting to get middle aged now.

It's the large relay on the firewall engine side of the master cylinder.



Also check the blue wire on the positive post of the driver's side battery. It may be lose or corroded or broken. There was most likely nothing wrong with the fuel solenoid. I hope you kept the old one.

I had the same problum a yr. and half ago , took the box off of the relay and filed the burnt points , that problum hasn'nt returned yet , I've been telling myself to get a new one to have in the clove box , but haven'nt .
Some times the linkage off the fuel shut off can get out of adjustment & cause the same symtom .

Is there a starter issue or just the fuel solenoid not picking up?

The Selonoid dosn't pick up all of the time. I have a new relay on order so I am hoping that will solve the issue.

Did you check the blue wire? If it's that then the fix may be free. Just clean up the connection maybe all it takes. A 70 amp automotive relay costs about $10 at an electronic components store. Sometimes less. I paid a little over $7 for one.

I did clean all of the conections at the drivers side battery and no differnce. I have made the mistake of ordering the relay from Dodge! But next time I will know better.
