I took the battery out - HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE BATTERY BOX!!!

Several of us have spent about an hour trying to get these new lamps in - I have another truck here so I know which way they go in flt side up on the back - BUT IT won't go in... .

Now need to take batteries out to get a straight shot --- any suggestions... .

You shouldn't have to remove the battery box to replace the bulbs. I was able to work my hand into the space to remove the bulb and put the new one in.

If you pull the fender liner, you'll need new rivets to put it back in.

I've never replaced the bulbs but I HAVE removed the battery boxes and I didn't need to remove the fender liners to do it. There are two bolts at the top of the box and you can access the other two by sliding under the front bumper and looking up at the fender. The bolts are exposed without removing the liner. My 2002 auto has the cruise servo attached to the driver's side batter box so you'll have to remove the three (I think) screws holding the servo assembly to the box before the box will lift free of the truck.

I still can't answer whether removing the batt box is necessary but at least you won't have to remove the fenders if it is.

John

Just guessing here but if you are having an unusually difficult time replacing the bulbs, make sure you have 9004 and not 9007. I did not see "Sport" in your sig line so I figure you have regular headlights. The 9007 will not (easily and without modification) fit into the 9004 housing.

Even before I got my front bumper, which hangs a little lower... . I'd remove my headlamp housings to replace the bulbs, it's a total of 4 bolts and a press pin as I recall. I'd give that a try if it's still fighting that bad.

I'll second SBettencourt's advice.

The 9004 & 9007 bulbs look similar and will both attach to the factory wiring. They are keyed differently so they can't be used in a housing not designed for their use. Even if they would fit, the filaments in the two bulbs are oriented differently (reflector/beam pattern problems) and the common & low-beam terminals are reversed (you would have to redo your wiring).
