I had my clutch replaced and immediately noticed that when idling, the truck had a vibration. I just thought that maybe it was because everything went back together in a slightly different position? This week I noticed a weird noise happening at idle with the clutch engaged, if I push in the clutch, the noise goes away. I towed my fifth wheel down to the beach, less than 30 miles, for our vacation and the noise seems more pronounced.

Any ideas? Thanks and happy 4th of July to everyone!

Wouldnt have any ideas but I just repaced my clutch that was acting just like that. It was the pilot bearing. I had to replace the input shaft also. I hope they replaced your pilot bearing.

What clutch did you install? Some of the performance clutches have some noise to them due to different dampening springs/devices.

I'd have to agree with Jim and say the clutch. When you upgraded to the 6spd flywheel did you use a new or used 1 3/8" input shaft?. If it was a used one it could be part of your issue... ... Andy

The only problem that I was aware of prior to the clutch replacement was the slipping clutch. The truck has 188,000 and this was the first time that the trans was ever pulled out, first new clutch. We did not replace the input shaft.

Does replacing the input shaft mean that the trans gets a rebuild? I think that I may be better off given the mileage that I have to completely rebuild it???

Replacing the input shaft is a 10 min job. You remove 4 bolts that hold the front bearing quill onto the transmission. Once removed, the input shaft can be pulled out and new one installed. My Southbend double disk cluth required a new input shaft, since it was bigger O. D. than the stock shaft. I will say that the Southbend had paint marks for alignment purposes, since it comes as a balanced unit.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I think I will call Valair to find out if they had alignment markings on it. I never looked at the clutch before I had it installed.

I don't have all of the tools to pull a transmission like this out at home. I have done it on VW bugs but those are a lot easier to manage.

I was thinking that perhaps when the clutch assembly was taken apart for installation and reassembled on the back of the engine that the assembly was not aligned properly. I think they are balanced as an assembly. If they aren't reassembled properly there could be a vibration.
