Hi All,

Jumped in the truck this morning and all was fine..... until I noticed the "Check Engine Light" came on!! I also saw my boost gauge going over 20psi which is what's probably throwing a code. Since my truck is a '99, I can't cycle the key to pull up the code. My truck is stock except having an Edge EZ. I do not have the boost elbow installed and have never seen boost go above 19-20psi. It is now going to about 25psi. Am I looking at a BAD wastegate??:{ Any help before I call the dreaded dealer will be appreciated.

Thanks everyone and Happy New Year!:)

With the EZ, you shouldn't be setting an overboost code. That's assuming that the EZ is plugged imto the map sensor and that the EZ is not malfunctioning.

I would go somewhere to get the codes pulled first, then make a plan of action. If you're setting an overboost code, then there is definetly a problem with the EZ.

Re-read my post... . I don't know what code has been tripped. The bottom line is that according to my gauge, the boost is going over 20psi which is NOT normal and probably is what's setting the code. I do not believe the EZ has anything to do with it.

What would cause an over boost condition on a stock truck?

High boost

Got you on the " can't read codes"

You had a good idea with the waste gate but I feel it may be more of the boost sensor on the intake manifold. If you have done any work around that area maybe you knocked it free, nicked a wire... . take a look and see what you see. It is on the aft (cab side) end of the intake manifold around cylinder #5.

I set an over-boost myself at 31 PSI but I know why mine happened. Just had to pull my foot off the floor and no more boost problem. My engine light went out shortly after the high pressure.

Andy

Re-read my post, I said find out what code you have first.

If the higher boost is actually setting a code, then there is most likely a problem with your EZ. An EZ is supposed to keep the computer from seeing a boost value high enough to set a code.

As to why you're suddenly seeing higher boost, could be a number of things. I would check the hose going to the actuator, make sure it's not splitting or coming unhooked first.

GOOD Point Matt... . you are correct. The EZ should be fooling the higher boost signal. I didn't think of that. Anyway, something is actually allowing the boost to climb above what the stock setup should allow. Maybe a problem with the MAP sensor?? Maybe a problem with the waste-gate not bleeding off the boost? Gonna get under the hood today to check it out more. Thanks for the advice. :D

overboost

i have had an overboost code since the first time i checked codesat about 40k----truck is stock -put gauges in couple months ago-i can get 30psi-brought it to the dealer befor gauges and they were baffled-never got an answer as to why it was overboosting but it is documented if somthing happens to turbo

Just could not figure out how i knew it had set codes at the dealer if the check engine was not on-----they would rather you were an iodit and believed they had all the answers The engine light has NEVER been on...
