Last weekend I was driving southbound on a 2 lane coastal highway near my home, came around a blind turn and a huge RV was stopped on the shoulder of the highway taking pics, but still hanging over 3' in my lane. I know this area very well, and slid left as far as I could, without crossing the double yellow into oncoming traffic. I actually thought that I had made it, but when I passed their cab... WHAM... my RS mirror connected with their LS mirror and shattered both (obviously at 45 mph). I was able to back up safely into the turnout which they were only partially using, and then directed them off the highway so there was no other dangers to traffic. We exchanged all the ususal info (with their apologies and with my calming down after I learned that they were tourists from Germany... while that's no excuse for stupidity, I just did not want to ruin their vacation with their kids!!!). Anyway, it seems as if their insurance will pay out, and as I have one of my lifetime oil changes at the dealer tommorow scheduled, I also had the dealer order the mirror for me.

My question is this, what is involved in replacing the entire power, heated tow mirror, support arm included?? While I could have the dealer do it for me, they need me to come in an hour earlier and will charge me one hour to install it. I am on the road right now, on schedule, and wil be hard pressed to make it there early, sO I am inclined to just pick up the part and do it myself when I get home, as long as it is not TOO involved (can't imagine how it is, but that's why I am asking you guys.

PLEASE, no guesses, just straight info from someone who has done it, or can post instructions from the service manual.

THANKS GUYS!!!!

It is real easy. I replaced the driver side on my 03. There are a few screws to remove on the door trim panel, then lift panel straight up to disengage from the door. Disconnect the wiring connector to the mirror. Remove three nuts, and the mirror is free. Run wire through opening to wiring connection. Place mirror into position and install three nuts. Replace door trim and screws. Probably a 15 minute job.

4 phillups head screws 1 10mm for the handle remove the switch beze,door panel then you will see the 3 10mm nuts that hold the mirror

Well that sure was easy... 1/2 hour tops to change out the whole thing, including cleaning the new mirror;

Thanks TDR!!
