This is from a computer idiot but I've had the problem also - - go into programs, then system tools, then cleanup and remove temp files, cookies and the rest of that junk, then go to system restore, go back to December, pick a highlighted date before the inlaws arrives and restore to that date - - - OK you now have 100% of my computer knowledge - - - Good Luck, maybe someone else will pipe in with other suggestions

Turn off any firewall or anti virus stuff. Usually if something is blocked it is a conflict with security programs.

I have found that all those 'cleaner' and 'washer' things dont work very well and screws up your system. .

I would remove all that and the MaCafee . . yes that too. .

Do a restart and then go to Here http://www.avg-download-free.org/ ... This is a Free Anti-Virus and it does not hinder the performance of your system. . Keep using firefox or Netscape. . do another restart and then see if you can go to a restore point... if not, you are probably better off now with the new Anti virus... When you get rid of all the controlling junk, you might get the restore back but now might not need it... ... see how it goes. .

Also good Idea to clean out MANUALLY all the cookies and temp files like C. D day said.

I use Windows vista and have not had any problems so far (knock on wood). . I only use the AVG Anti-virus and thats it.
