i'm having a problem with getting code p0016 on my 05 2500. i have a volant air intake, edge juice with attitude, mbrp exaust and an industrial injection 62 turbo. when i get into my engine light comes on. i get code p0016 which is a cam shaft sensor code. i've been told that if the sensor was bad my truck would hardly run. it runs great. my dealer warned me about having aftermarket accessories on my truck. they said they think that my turbo maybe winding up so much that it sets the code off?not sure about that though. anybody else with this code???

thats the code i'm getting. this is the second time i got it. i've been getting codes p0016 and p0234. the second one is a over boost code.

My DTC Database shows this for P0016 and Dodge Ram 2500 2005.

GENERIC Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation - Bank 1 Sensor A

GENERIC Crankshaft/Camshaft Timing Misalignment/Out-of-sync

Probable Causes: Wiring, Crankshaft position (CKP) sensor, Camshaft position (CMP) sensor, mechanical fault

thanks for the definition of what it is and the causes. how would one fix this??? my dealer breaks my stones. i know the cam shaft sensor is a special order item. you need to download info to get this part

Sorry I cant help with how to diagnose the real problem. Probable causes covers just about anything that could be wrong, from wiring to sensor to mechanical and as always a potential ECM issue. I would think the service department could use tools available to get a true diagnosis. But doubt that they have that much experience with Cummins and new computer controls. Probably never seen the code before on a 600+ engine.

Have you removed the Juice completely to see if you still get codes? You might get the over boost code without the Juice if you get in it hard. The Juice could be causing the codes.

p016 shows up in the 06 book... ..... interesting. The factory publication calls this code engine speed mismatch. Have you looked at the tone wheel?has it been massaged? The Ecm is seeing diferent rpm at the crank vs the cam to set this code. Or has the box caused the code. First step would be to pull the box and see if it resets. Don't expect a dealer to troubleshoot for warranty pay on a modified truck. That will be asking for a dm to come look at the truck. You don't want that trust me :D

i get code p0016 only when my juice is in and i only get code p0234 with my juice out. i understand that i get code p0234 with my juice out because of the phat shaft 62 that i have. the juice fols the ecm into thinking you are getting less boost so you can get more and with the phat shaft it gets more boost than the stock turbo and will overboost every time. i get code p0016 only with the juice in. i saw somewhere in here someoen write that they found a wire chaffing against a hose around the ac unit i think. i just got my juice back from edge,i got the hot juice upgrade and they said the unit was good. i wonder if i am getting the different cam shaft and crank sppeds. can this be corrected?can it cause damage. thanks for the help. have agreat turkey day. rainy here in ct

you are running juice with attitude, you are not going to get rid of the check engine light on this newer model truck, I have seen this many times at the dealership, it is a default in the e. c. m. that shows that something is trying to fake the sensors on the vehicle. happy thanksgiving everyone.

Take it to a cummings dealer. That is were I take mine to get serviced. I don't trust any Dodge dealer I buy from or were I am at. They are factory trained and most of them know there S__T!

ManyCummingsdealers do not have the code necessary to work on the 3rd gens. I am also told by a Cummins tech they do not have any training for the 3rd gens and have tryed to get into the dodge training classes-unsuccesfuly in So Cal. :D
