My truck won't start.
I have a charge in my battery... the GMC Kodiak will be back with my truck in a few minutes... before, in order to start it i'd have to really mash on the clutch so my starter would go... . now my starter doesn't do anything no matter how hard i mash my clutch to the floor.
when i turn the key i can hear the grid heater and i do have a charge coming from my battery... the starter just doesn't even move... i hit the starter with a hammer a few times to make sure there wasn't a dead spot... I'm wondering if the whole thing is a dead spot????????
any ideas???please... I hate driving this little ford/mazda pos.

i just got it drooppped off... . now when i turn the key it jyust goes... . clickclickclickclickclick as long as i have the key turned

<font color=blue>How old is your batteries? Replace them, you might be surprised at just how much juice these grid heaters take, and then on top of that the starter takes alot of juice to turn the engine over.

<font color=blue>You said you have a charge on the battery, but what you need to do is have them load tested. Thats how you find out if a battery is still good.

They may show a charge but if one cell is dead or shorted it can't profide you the continous power you will need.

Post here when ya find out ... .....

Another possibility is a shorted starter. I just replaced the starter on my wife's 4. 0L Jeep a couple of weeks ago with exactly these same symptoms.

Bad ground wire? The heavy duty ground clamp on the battery end on mine rotted internally (the factory one), replaced it and varoom.
Mine did the same thing. You might try to test the relay for the starter on the fender near the battery. It may be fried.

One basic thing to check - are your battery terminals and clamps clean? That can cause some of the problems you are having.

Hey Joe, You said you had to mash your clutch pedal in order to get action. I think your safety switch finally went bad or is loose or something. I say to go under the dash with a small cotter pin or paper clip, unplug the switch, and jump the 2 wires with the pin or clip. Don't forget to check for neutral before starting. Let us know what happens.

Just had that problem with mine last week. The battery had lots of volts (13) but the amperage was way down. Replaced the battery and problem solved.

I took my + battery connector off this morning, it was in 2 pieces... I can't find my multimeter. . im gonna go get a new connector and see if i can't clean up the mess under there... someone decided to hardwire a bunch of s**t to the positive terminal.
My engine ground looks ok.
After i replace the connector im gonna hardwire the clutch safety "on".
I'll get back on with results sometime soon... thanks guys!

I put a new battery in... it turned right over... but not every time i try... i thought i'd hardwire the clutch safety switch until i saw that it wasn't connected to anything...
so im just gonna let my local mechanic handle the chore of cleaning up the wiring harness... (someone has done something to the cruise control)...
this is a list of all that i found to be wired to my battery:
1. starter
2. a chunk of romex connected to a female plug
3. my winch
4. my brake controller
5. my cd player
and 2 other things i'm not sure where they go...
thanks guys
joe

I hear em every nite... im only a block away from the tracks.
I do recognize the crossing as i used the tracks to walk home from school back in the day. #ad
