Need some help here guys. Wanted to get the EGT down so I purchased a "used" PS Boost Module from a fellow and installed it. Before install, boost would not exceed 21. After install, boost remains the same. Placed 22 caliber shell casing in hard elbow and it is sealed. Boost mod is also installed. Pulled 17k 5'er and still no increase in boost.

Removed the boost elbow today to make sure it was sealed. While the elbow and diaphram were loose, I tried to move the rod back and forth that connects the boost gate to the diaphram - no movement at all. Can't believe the diaphram has the power to move the rod!

Have 275 injectors and VA Box. Took truck out at 50 MPH and floored it in overdrive. Boost bounced to 25 for a fraction of a second and immediately went back to 20.

Appreciate some help on where to go from here. Thanks in advance.

Are you getting pretty good smoke before the boost comes up, if so you've probably got enough fuel to build more boost than 20-25 psi. With sufficient fuel, the possibilities for not building more boost would seem to be limited to a) the boost module is not working correctly and the ECM is still seeing an overboost condition and defueling, b) the 22 shell/boost elbow are still allowing the wastegate to function normally, c) your leaking boost downwind from the turbo, or d) your air filter is really really dirty ;)

I've never heard of the . 22 shell idea - sounds cool but based on your symptoms, I'm suspicious it is not working. After I installed my PE Comp, I went for a test drive and 25psi was max boost. I put a turnbuckle on the wastegate and now it will consistently get to 34psi. Even if you don't want to leave it there permanently, the turnbuckle as a diagnostic aid will at least let you know if the . 22 shell is still letting the wastegate open. Give it a try and see.

Post back here with your results - I'm curious.

I don't think the air filter is dirty as it only has 11K miles on it. Haven't looked out the rear-view mirror at the smoke, will do that tomorrow.

How do I go about placing a turnbuckel on the gate? The elbow is totally blocked off and no pressure can get into it. Could the electronic module be faulty? As I don't have any instructions for the boost module, does anyone have the phone number of the company that makes the PS Boost Module? Thanks for your feedback.

When I hit 20 lbs of boost, the truck just seemed to give up.

I would say it is your boost elbow. I can hit 24 psi of boost without a boost module. With your 275 and VA there should be more than enough fuel to make more boost than me. A boost module only keeps the ECM from setting a code and from defueling above 2700 RPM or over 20lb of boost, it will not defuel enough to drop pressure reading back to 20lbs, at least not on my truck. The above is with stock air filter and stock exhaust.

Make sure the elbow is completely sealed and then drill a small hole in the elbow on the hose side so if some air is excapeing it will not build boost.

If that doesn't work email me your address and I will send you a new elbow to try. -- email address removed --

Cummonsaholic - Thanks so much for link that shows the pictures on how to install the turnbuckle.

ronsram - Before I drill a hole in the pipe, I will try the turnbuckle. The 22 shell was tapered and taped into place so I don't understand how it could possibly be leaking. Seems like the turnbuckle is the simplest solution at present.

Thanks again guys - off to the hardware store!

I to have the PS boost mod. I am getting the boost guage for xmas so I don't know where I am at now. I can hear the turbo spool up much higher than before. I installed the turnbuckle. Very simple. Took about 20 min. for whole job. Very happy

Just installed the turnbuckle and highway tested it. At 50 MPH I stomped it in overdrive and the boost shot up to 32 and held there until the foot lifted.

Can't put into words how thankful I am for all your help fellas. Have a good day!

Efficiency range: I'm confused Bob...

Bob,

I've heard the efficiency range of the HX35 is 30-32psi. You say 25psi... What is it?

HY35's efficiency range is 25 PSI.

HX35's efficiency range is 32 PSI.

I'm not a turbo head but that's what I've heard. I have the turnbuckle setup with a spring so that it opens up at 25 psi. I may get a heavier gauge spring to increase it to 28 - 30. I prefer to have some sort of wastegate at least semi - disabled instead of totaly disabled so I don't blow up my turbo.

Or maybe the correct term now is "Huff my turbo" ;)

Here's a pic of mine..........

I can produce 34# of boost momentarily and 32# on a good WOT run. Notice the nice brownish hue.  Hey, if it breaks it's time for a real turbo anyway.
