Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) How is your Fedex pump holding up ?

I helped out a friend by putting on a new injection pump for him. Truck is a 2000 auto. The engine is no running fine but he called me 20 minutes after picking it up and said the transmission was starting off in second and had no overdrive. After stoping for at a store he said the transmission seemed to be working ok. Also the fan is noisy even when the engine is cold. It is not locked up but it is very stiff compared to my truck. I washed the engine and radiator with a hot pressure washer before I replaced the injection pump. Do you think this may have hurt the fan clutch. (I washed it pretty thoroughly :-laf ) Also could un-pluging the tps of caused the transmission problem? or was it the pressure washer too!?

It is normal for a good fan clutch to 'lock up' when sitting. If you don't hear the fan when revving the engine shortly after starting it, you need to replace the fan clutch because it will no longer work effectively. I use this to keep a check on the fan. My old '89 had the clutch go bad and I didn't notice it until one hot day it was cooling down at the diesel pump and the high pressure relief started relieving. It sounded like a . 22 pistol firing close by and oil vapor started coming out of the radiator. I took it to the local dealer and they performed an inspection of the A/C system. When they found a faint trace of oil on one line firring they refused to recharge it without repairs. Those 'repairs' cost $480! You can be glad the fan turned stiffly. It is a good one.
