Help!!! I've only got reverse....

Went to the store today and while backing out of my spot the shifter dropped back to the seat. :--) :--)

The truck was still in gear but the shift arm acted like it wasn't even attached. I was able to get it into 4th and limp it home. I took the plate off it looks like the linkage has come appart (internal not the shifter). Has anyone ever heard of this? The truck has really low miles and I always thought the 6spd was the heavy duty transmission... . I hate to take it to the dealer but I'm thinking that it might be time to try out that exteneded waranty. The clutch works fine and the transfer case shifts fine but main shifter flops aroound like it isn't even hooked to anything and now it's stuck in reverse. :( :{ :(

I wish I had an answer for you but that's the first time I've heard of such a thing. I'll be watching this thread to see what the deal is.

Hey the same thing happened to me shifting into third pulling away from a redlight. I got home took the shifter console out and found the four bolts holding the shifter to to top of the transmission were all just barely threaded in. I tightened them all back up and they came loose again in two weeks. I ended up using red loctite on the bolts and havent had any problems yet. Hope this helps! I know it scared the crap out of my when i let go of the shifter and it fell back into the seat.

I thought it might be the bolts too. I took the console out and everything was tight. I even pulled the shifter out to make sure it was making contact. It must be someting internal. Thanks for the idea.
