"... ... . I need some expert advice. I am having trouble with my 91 dodge, it has been getting harder and harder to start over past couple of weeks. finally died and will not start now, luckily it died at my house so did not need to get it towed. Over the last couple of days i have replaced the fuel filter, fuel lift pump, and added 5 gallons of gas just in case gauge is not working. still would not fire up. After reading some articles on the tdr i tried cracking the injectors loose and started cranking it over, after about 5 seconds it started to shoot fuel out, so i tightened them all back up and tried it again, started right up, let it runfor about ten minutes and shut it off waited about 5 minutes and would not start again. went through whole process again and same thing happened, started right up ran fine shut it off for a little while and then it would not start again. That is where i am right now. Any advice or ideas would be greatly apreciated. thank you..... "

Geezzzz... . I hope you just "mistyped" with you said you added 5 gallons of gas

Hard start

Since you are able to make it run by the method mentioned, you can figure the injection pump is working. That leaves air getting in the system somewhere. I have on occasion had to use an auxillary lift pump to prove the system and to find the problem. The lift pump may be failing. I have seen post on that previously. A buddy of mine uses the 'douche bag method'. That is, rig a way to have gravity flow to the system so you know that there is no suction problem. Have you replaced the fuel filter?

None of this may be helpful but they are things I have run into in the past.

A good way to find leaks in the fuel system is to put a little compressed air into the fuel tank ... using an air gun with a rag wrapped around . All you need is to be able to get about 10 psi in the tank. Have a helper pressurize the tank while you look for leaks.

Should be easy to find them.

Hope this helps.

Well you guys nailed it. I dropped the fuel tank and found that the lines were rusted all the way thru between the fuel tank and the frame. So i replaced the lines and bleed the system and it fired right up. I guess you can expect little problems like that after 421,000 miles. Well any way i sure aprecciate all the responses hope i can return the favor some day. thanks alot.
