Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fluid Specs Question

A guy at work just drove in with a fuel leak. It appears to be coming from the banjo fitting on the fuel return line? (from injector pump). The washers seem to be intact and the ball mechanism seems to move freely.

Do the washers go bad after time? How bad do they look when failed?

Could the fitting have cracked (is this normal)?

What does the ball mechanism do? Could a failure be causing some sort of pressure spike?

Any thoughts on what else to look for?

It sounds like you pulled off the overflow valve. (Is it just inboard of the #1 DV?) The spring and ball maintain pressure inside the pump to keep the fuel flowing into the pumpung chambers. (barrels)

You could try new seals. Hopefully that will do it. Sounds unusual that a leak would just start there. Maybe there is something else cracked or broken.
