I was trveling this past weekend and 3rd gear went out on the not so mighty Ram. All other gears are operational and the truck is drivable. The truck reved up while going up the Grapevine, I thought I slipped the clutch but there wsas no smell. I started to roll shifting up thru the gears and lo and behold third was missing. Any help is appreciated

Okay guys here is a little more info I was pulling 26K running 3rd gear 2700RPMs 25pds of boost and the EGTs were around 1100, spd was approx 42MPH. Truck has 33's and 3. 55 gears, trans has Amsoil in it. When it broke there was no noise or vibration. Truck is still running smooth with a little trouble going from 2nd to 4th. I have an appt w/Dodge about previous warranty work. I'll keep you all posted. Side note New Venture only rates this transmission at 450 FTPDS.

I've never heard of loosing 3rd gear. Please post as to what happened.

5 or 6 speed? What RPM were you running? What were you pulling/carrying? What were your transmission oil change intervals?
I just went over the Grapevine and back carrying a cabover and never got below 5th gear.

Spyke,

26,0000 lbs. Woooo baby #ad
Your out of control and your going to jail. #ad
#ad
. is that gross combined weight rating or just trailer weight #ad
#ad
. 5 or 6 speed? I thought I was out of control at 22,500 GCWR. Seems to me that if you were pulling that much weight up the grapevine (6% grade) and 3rd gear snapped you would have heard something.

I'll be watchen this thread closely because I too am out of control and over weighted.

Please keep us posted.

Guys I think I have one of those 5 star dealers. I was told the DC was putting $1500 towards the cost of repair. I keep you posted about what actually broke, looking in my manual thou I think the 3rd gear synchro hub is what spun on the shaft to keep me from moving forward. We'll have to wait and see what was actually broke thou.

Well I got the truck back DC covered $1500 third gear was wiped clean. Mech says it got hot. Dealer put in a new trans with 36mth/36K warranty vice rebuild that was only covered for 12/12K. My cost was about 1K. Thought you guys would like the update. Thanks for the help
