OK so I dropped a 98 12V w/ 180Hp pump in my Ford n put a NV4500 behind it. Did a turbo, exhaust, fuel plate, FASS, injectors, 7. 3L IC, and when I shift it will not pick up any speed without boost. It isn't very impressive on power either. I have virtually no smoke. I didn't go crazy on any single mods, everything is balanced pretty well. I had to do a little custom routing on the return line and I am wondering if maybe this could be where my problem is? I put a T in to connect the injector return line with the injection pump return line and then another T to connect the FASS return to the engine return. I pinched the line with vice grips to see if that would get me the fuel I need in the cylinders but didn't gain anything, including smoke. So now I am wondering if my injection pump might not be letting enough fuel through. A lot 2 read but any help is appreciated.

Check all connections, like Forrest said.

Then I'd be thinking the lever in the pump. It sometimes goes under the cam plate.

I am not running a Fass system on my truck, but have similar setup to put on farm tractor with 855 Cummins. I was thinking that instructions mentioned to run return back to tank and do not tee into any existing return line.

This is my first Cummins n I'm learning as I go, so I am a little dumb on them yet.

Forrest, when you say over overflow valve I assume you mean the banjo bolt on the return from the injection pump. If so I checked it and it works fine. My mods are HX-40, DDP3's, Piers adjustable plate set at #10, and I have not messed with the AFC. I actually don't know anything about it yet. I double check the throttle, it's set good.

I will get back to you on the pump lever and the FASS return.

Thanks for the help... ... ...

you need to loosen up the AFC big time... stock AFC setting with an HX40 is going to be sluggish, even with the DDP3's!

you're gonna be in for a surprise when you loosen that baby up a little :D

WOW! I got in there and cranked the star wheel and boom, instant power! I can't get through the gears fast enough now. Thanks again for the help

Watch that HX40 though. Do not bark the turbo while shifting, or your turbo will go *boom* literally.

Glad to hear the AFC did it for ya, suprising the stock setting wasnt enough, but those ddp3's do eat a lot of fuel compared to stock...

Keep playing with that AFC, some people can milk 50+ horsepower out of just adjustments in there. If you slide your plate all the way forward you'll flow more fuel too ;)

Also, I'd suggest a 3k governor spring kit, it was my favorite mod back when I had my 12ver. gives you a TON more usable RPM.

just don't outrightly abuse the HX40, and it'll last a long time. overspeeding it will kill it. Keep the boost below 40psi, and you'll be golden.

I beat the tar out of one on my '97 for about 65k miles and it was tight as the day I installed it when I sold the truck. I ran it at 42psi for half of those miles, and then after adding more fuel, I actually turned the boost down to 38/39 because it was just making hot air above that

I have a 3K from Piers, I just don't know where to put it in at or how. One of those things I wanna be sure of before I attempt it. I was also wondering about the valve springs being stock w/ a 3k?? Not to mention I am running a 53 block, but it was litterally the only 12V in the entire state of AK(checked for weeks).

JacobsD, I heard I could get a lil more by messing with the AFC but unfortunately for me I gotta wait till I get outta AK to get it on a dyno.

Forrest, I am hittin 30psi now but I have never messed with one to adjust it. I can't get into 5th very far before I hit 1200 pyro. I still got a lot of gear left too, any suggestions??

don't worry about a 53 block in a 12v, I've owned a few of them w/ no worries. it's the later 24v's you have to worry about! :)

crank the boost on your turbo up to about 39-40psi and see if that doesn't take care of your EGT problems
