Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Help, low boost elevated egt

Guy's, Got to the top of the exit ramp went to make left turn and during exceleration we (wife) heard a pop/whoosing sound and I lost half of my boost and I could easily hit 1150 to 1200 egt so I left the 5er at the lake and came home. The truck will only hit 11 to 14 lbs of boost when it can make 30 to 32 lbs and the souns is on the driver's side . I looked at the boot's and they look fine any and all help will be greatly appreciated, Don

Feel around all the boots, most likely that's where it's at. Check all the clamps (7/16ths wrench). I'd be surprised if you popped a intake manifold or intake horn gasket at your boost. Or popped the intercooler for that matter.

Check the under the heater grid i had one of the plugs to blow out.

Was it hot? Did you have the A/C on?

The pop then no boost and high EGTs are a good example of what happens when the VP's electronics got too hot.

Mine did the same thing.

Is it throwing any codes???

Just a visual on the boots (Intercooler connect hoses) won't reveal much. Loosen the clamps and make sure they are seated on the tubes. A tiny portion of a boot can be shoved out from under the clamp. Usually where you CANNOT see it. Sometimes they can split and not be seen but under pressure you will see it torn.

Hi all, found my leak Oo. ,where the rubber hose went through the firewall in the rubber boot around steering column. this was just inside the engine compartment and this was a blow out not a worn spot, thank's for everyone's help Don

Had much the same thing. Made an adapter out of stuff at Home Depot that goes on the turbo inlet and then pressurize the boost system it to whatever psi you like.



Pressurize it up and feel around the boots, intake, intercooler, etc easy to find problem and engine is not running.
