Howdy folks

Yesterday on the way home from work it seemed like I had to give the truck a little more throttle than usual, but the thing seemed to be running fine.

It started fine this morning but as I was backing out of the driveway the 'Check engine' light came on. I tried going on to work but ended up coming home as I didn't hardly have any power in 5th gear. I have a scanner, hooked it up and got the codes 1693 & 237. 237 is low boost, I checked all the rubber boots on the intake tract. Drove my gas guzzling Durango to work, stopped after work and picked up a new MAP sensor, installed, and reset the check engine light with the scanner. Went for a test drive and everything was well for about 5-6 miles then the light came on again, same codes present. I have replaced the fuel filter about 5000 miles ago, lift pump replaced about 2 months ago, reading a steady 14 psi on my cockpit installed gauge. I have a EZ edge box and boost elbow that has been on there for about 3 years don't know what happens if these things go bad? or do they go bad?? I might try unhooking the EZ box tomorrow night after work, I had a local performance diesel place install it, so I really dont know what I'm doing, I'm just hoping it isn't the VP44 any help is apprieciated.

'98. 5 reg cab, 5 speed, 4x4, 2500, straight piped, ez edge box and boost elbow, fuel pressure gauge, 199600 miles :{

I just had precisely this same thing happen on my 01 2 months ago. My problem ended up being my Edge Comp box actually went bad. I got one of the very first Comp boxes, and so it was almost 4 years old, and it died. No indication other than the check engine light coming on, and the truck having only stock power levels.

i sent the box back to Edge, they bench tested it and sent it back, and it still failed. I borrowed another Comp from a local TDR member, and his worked just fine. I sent mine back to Edge and asked them to truck test it - it failed for them also, and even though it was long since poast their 2 year warranty, they fixed it for free and sent it back to me.

I have been Oo. ever since.

So - here is what I would suggest.

1. Unplug your EZ, plug OEM harnesses back together (I forget now if the EZ goes into the MAP connector or just the data port... ).

2. You will need to drive the truck a good 5 - 8 times without the EZ on it before the check engine light will go out - so be prepared for this. Do NOT think that you still have a problem when the CEL is still on after you initially disconnect the EZ...

3. If after 5 - 8 times you drive the truck - and just starting it and shutting it down is NOT enough, the CEL is still on... your MAP sensor may be the culprit, as the 0237 code is Low MAP Sensor Voltage Level... , but I would still recommend trying another EZ box on your truck first, since that's cheaper than buying a new MAP sensor (They are ~$45 as I recall???)

4. If you can't find someone else with an EZ they will let you borrow, then you can either send yours back to Edge and ask them to bench AND truck test it for you, or drop the $ and get a new MAP sensor and try that.

Good luck.

Thanks for info

Thanks for the info, I will remove the EZ tomorrow, and do some driving. I contacted a local diesel repair shop today and told them of my problems, the guy there also told me to lose the EZ and try that 1st. If that doesn't fix it try a new fuel filter, if that doesn't do it, test the wastegate valve on the turbo with a handheld vacuum pump and see if the arm moves or not and if the vacuum actuator holds vacuum or pressure to make sure the diaphram isn't ruptured. I have had the EZ on there so long I forget what stock power is supposed to feel like!! I'll post whatever I find out.

Thanks again

problem found and fixed

thanks for the help , while disconnecting the EZ box, the MAP sensor plugs were corroded badly. A little electrical cleaner and an old toothbrush helped some, but the plug should probably be replaced as the connectors are severly eaten away. Anyhow I cleaned everything as good as possible and elimanated the EZ box and now the Check Engine light is off and it seems to be running fine although at stock power level.
