Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Help!!! Making Pusher Pump Kit, Need advice

Hey all, planning to do the pusher pump thing with my truck on Saturday and thought I had it all mapped out except I realize I am missing one thing. How in the heck to I connect my 1/2" ID rubber line to the stock pickup in the tank? Any suggestions on making or building a reducer to make it work?

You could replace the stand pipe with the 1/2 inch pickup tube. There is a union / kit that I think ADT sells??



One tip Make a box or sheld for your pump! When I had my pusher setup before the -8An / PE conversion my pusher pump rotted and fell apart !!!!!! Road salt being kicked up on it is a killer.

Jeff, darn it, I thought I told you. You will have no problem, you just need the hose clamp. The OEM fitting is a bit of a PITA - they either come off real easy, or you need to find the proper place to hold your tongue. Once it is off, you will have a nice looong male fitting with a ridge about 3/4 from the end to keep the hose from sliding off.

Once your remove the quick connect from the top of the tank you will have a male fitting with a ridge as stated above. I sanded the ridge down as 3/8" hose fits the male perfectly... except for the tall ridge.



They you can buy a brass hose barb adapter that adapts 3/8" to 1/2" hose. I know I saw some somewhere when I was doing mine. Fastenal part # 441354-131280 or Weatherhead part # 1062X8X6. Its called a minibarb adapter. Its a clampless connector for polyethylene tubing... such as that used up by the stock lift pump and on the top of your fuel tank. Sand the barbs down to size and rubber tubing will fit nicely with a clamp.



1/2" rubber might go right over the fuel tank male fitting... but I would use two clamps if you dont adapt it from 3/8" The fitting is plenty long for two clamps.

fuel module fitting



That is the fuel module fitting you'll be connecting to. I've filed down the barb you see. It had a grey plastic quick connection like the return line but I removed it. It just slides off. The barb was quite large in comparison to whats left in my photo.



Normally you just squeeze the two buttons to get the quick connector off... but mine didn't work that way. I had to use some tiny screw drivers to get it to disconnect. I also had the bed off which made it easy to see what was happening at the connection. If the bed was on I doubt I could have got it off without breaking it. The return quick coupler came right off as its supposed to do.
