I am trying to decide what option to go on exhaust. I have a G56 which I think makes a big difference because on the highway I am turning 25-2600 RPM - so something that will not drone at that RPM is VERY important.

Other than that, I want to get rid of the cat because I cannot come up with one good reason to keep it, and would like a deeper tone. I would prefer it not be intrusive in the cab, but a little noise is not so bad. Right now I have the AFE stage 2, so I can hear the intake all the time. There is some engine clatter, but I never really hear the axhaust unless the windows are down and I am next to a building.

I like the look of rigs that huge pipes underneeth. A buddy runs MBRP 5 inch with 6 inch tip on his 03. I like the look but am worried about drone.

OK - suggestions?

MBRP doesnt make a 5" system. I really like my Magnaflow 15989 5". Loud when I want it and quiet when it needs to be. PM me if you want more info on other options... .

With my truck, the loud part of sixth gear is from 2000-2200 rpm. It puts me right at 65-75mph. My exhaust note is near silent below and above this rpm. I ran 5 hours recently on I-5 at 2500-2600 rpm and it was nice and quiet. I don't think you'll have an issue with drone at highway speeds in your truck.

With the G56 equipped Megacab I drove, at 2500 in sixth it was near silent. Remarkably silent. It needed a little intake and exhaust noise.

My 305/555 has no cat from the factory, and I found that after 1 year, my Banks exhaust went from nice and loud to too loud. I added an MBRP 30" muffler where the kitty goes, and now it's perfect!

I love my MBRP, but its the 4" stainless with muffler. But its perfect for me, whether driving the highways or towing a 16' enclosed trailer. No drone and sounds like it should. You make the choice, but I would look hard at MBRP stuff.

PM me anytime if you need anything.

I have a 4" MBRP cat-back and the noise level was barely above stock..... just a nice little growl when you romp on it. In fact, I want it louder so will soon ditch the cat. The system is priced well around the $600 or you can just get their muffler and adaptor for half that.

Best reason to keep the cat. Federal law! You ALREADY have a 4 inch system. Change muffler only. Save the $. You CAN go too big.

I agree! With already having a 4" system, why buy it again. Just change the muffler and if you want to get rid of the Cat, that's your choice. I have the 51" Nelson 86131M, 4" straight threw muffler. It give good performance without a bunch of noise and no drone. But still sounds very healthy from the outside.

unless you are going for 500+ hp. stick with 4" exhaust, you lose some power with the 5" and it is more suseptable to drone.

One of these days I will post a sound clip of my truck, it has a Magnaflow 4" muffler in place of the cat, and the MBRP replacement muffler. Really quiet at cruise and towing heavy loads, under accleration, it sounds pretty nice :) I basically put the Magnaflow in there to take the rasp out of the exhaust note at WOT, which appears after removing the cat, and in my opinion... sounds like garbage, but only under WOT. Under part and decent accel with just MBRP it sounds AWESOME!... But who only gives it "part" throttle?

Well i'm only twenty with a quad cab short bed and i like loud. I straight piped the whole system. Sounds awesome and really turns a lot of heads. On the free way i only hear it when i floor it and pass some one at the same time. Other than that i can't hear it at all and those are at speeds of 70-84. Eventually i will put a turn down pipe on it to quiet it up some and not totally surprise people when i floor it buy them, but if they make you mad you can bet i let them know, especially if their window is down.

mt buddy has 6" bully dog cat back with the cat out that he got from rip and he has no drone and does 6" pipe from the downpipe back look awesome. Call Rip he will hook you up

I also run the bully dog 6" and if you tow heavy the drone will vibrate you out of the cab... I was running ther 6" straight for awhile but i just put the resinator in that comes with the exhaust and it helped the drone alittle,,I love the way the 6" sounds. .

Are you sure? I thought that 3/4 ton and up trucks are not considered passenger vehicles and therefore do not have to have cats??

Cant say a bad word about it!

Your's is an 03 - so what size pipe are you running?

My buddy's 03 3500 with the 5 inch MBRP system (they do make it) sounds pretty nice, but he does not have a cat.

I like the idea of 6 inch. There is guy with a silver sport 2500 QC in Lee's Summit that I see parked on Chipman Road all the time. He has what looks like 6 inch pipe on it. It is huge, looks incredible. No idea how it sounds.
