Towing ability with 92 intercooled/automatic

When I took the Cummins Engine Plant tour in the summer of '02 (they were assembling the '03 HPCR engines, at that time), we were told that the blocks came from Brazil.

The Chinese blocks must be something new!!!

I agree that it is dissappointing that this engine can't be produced, entirely, in the US.

HBarlow: What are your thoughts regarding the comparison of the 68RFE vs. the Aisin auto's. ? Pro's & con's. of each? Thank you. Inquiring minds want to know.

Buffalo,

I am not qualified to compare them. I have about 107k miles on my '08 C&C with considable towing but have only test driven a 68RFE a very few miles unloaded. As far as I know the MOPAR unit is excellent also.

I do know that the Aisin is intended for light medium duty applications and is holding up very well under heavy daily hotshot towing such as TDR member EB does. He has about 350k miles on his '07. 5 Ram 3500 C&C as an oilfield hotshot hauler. His Aisin has been completely trouble free.

I strongly prefer the C&C over the pickup for other reasons such as less emission control crap and stiffer suspension installed on the C&C.

I've had my new long bed for just over two weeks now after having driven a short bed for about 5 years. Pulled 5er with both and no comparison, the 8 footer is the way to go!

Yeah, i got a little excited coming back to the TDR. Didn't read to the end of the thread before I posted. My bad. Been gone for five years since I got rid of the '97 CTD 4x2. Glad to be back in 2011 CTD!
