wiring question

I am looking at purchasing my first large trailer. We are looking at 5th wheels in the 13-14,000# range. I have towed lots of smaller trailers (up to 8000#) but this will be our first 5'ver.

Knowing that we are looking at a trailer of this size, here's what i am thinking of picking up before setting up the trailer:

I want an e-brake - looking at Banks / Pac / Jacobs

I want guages - Boost and Pyro (it's a 6 speed)

I want a larger exhaust - looking at Banks because of the brake, but... Cooler running, yes?

I will be buying a Pull-right with Super Rails (I want a flush bed for hauling my sheet goods when doing furniture and cabinet making).

Brake controller is up in the air. (I know I need to be careful, but) Opinions?

Am I missing anything?

I'm not ready for a box yet. I understand EGT's can be an issue with a box and heavy loads. I am going to be stock for a little while. Of course, the other deciding factor is $$.

I'm learning a lot here. Thanks in advance for all the input!

I use the prodigy brake controller, seems to operate smooth/no complaints

For a power box I tow on level 4 of Edge EZ box and my sig shows setup of truck. My 5er is 10,000+ and I tow anywhere at about 65-68mph uphill, flat roads whatever and no high EGT problems. You say your getting H. O. motor so maybe you could tow on level 3 without Egt problems, all I know is I have plenty of power on my S. O. motor with Edge level 4

Good luck

If you are planning on staying stock for a while you may consider just keeping the exhaust standard and losing the muffler for the present to save a few $$ . . it costs about $40 to get the exhaust shop to put a piece of straight pipe where the muffler was, keep the resonator on.

Maybe put the saved $'s into a good AFE air intake with a Pro Guard 7 filter on it ... Losing the muffler and gettting the AFE will help keeping the EGT down while towing. :D

I have the old Voyager for braking and it works fine, but have a few friends that swear by their Prodigy's.

I know of a few people that have sticking problems with the PAC due to buildup on the shaft and in the hoses. I run a Jacobs with no problems but i think either of the three you have listed are all good E brakes.

Hope this helps :D
