Hey guys, I really do turn to TDR for ALL my cunudrums:confused:

I am supposed to make enough sausage gravy to feed 50 people for a church breakfast on Saturday--problem is, I don't know HOW!!

So Share with me you favorite Receipts--PLEASE:eek:

Max

What may I ask gave them the impression that you could make sausage gravy for 50 people? I guess people think that when we drive a mighty truck as ours, they think we're Superman.

If it were me I would go to my local McDonalds, talk to the manager and buy a bucket of their Sausage Gravy.

Sorry I can't help you out on the recipe:)

Most of, if not all the sausage gravy that you get is from a can. . I cook for between 100-180 men at our church's mens breakfast. I don't have time to make it so I get #10 cans of pre made and then just heat it. . It is the best gravy that I have had in a long time.

Check with some of your local restuarants(taste the gravy first) and see if they will sell you a couple of cans. If not, check with your food service companies(Sysco,Alliant food Service) and tell them what you need.

I also buy pre made bisquits that all I need is to heat them real good and their ready to serve... .

Hope this helps. .

Thanks for the reply's. I never thought about local food service for the cans--hey maybe I can find some old military surplus cans of gravy cheap:D :D :D

If all that fails, call me and I'll tell you how to make it so good that is will be dangerous to eat. If you should miss your mouth and get some on your cheek, your tongue will slap you silly trying to get to it!!!!!!!!!

gravy

be careful taking cunudrums to church. i don't think that is encouraged. if it is give me the name of your church... ... ... LOL

Back When I used to manage a resort hotel we got all of our gravies, including the sausage for our country breakfast in a powdered form, just mix in to boiling water. Even had chucks of some kind of dried meat in it!!! Who do they do that??

Southern Mills ( ?? ) or something like that makes a nice package mix. My folks use it for their breakfast events. Buy your own bulk sausage, cook it in a pan like burger. At the same time make up the gravy mix in a different pot. Then add the sausage, grease and all into the gravy mix, stir up, heat. Tastes great.

Ok - here's mom's tried and true recipe- we stole it and make it at camp in the fall.

For five man sized servings ( we serve it over pancakes and biscuits)

1 lb. ground sausage

2/3 cup milk (use 1 cup if the gravy will sit for a while)

1/2 to 1 teaspoon butter (the real kind)

salt and pepper (black&ground) to taste.

1-2 tablespoons flour

Brown the sausage and drain off grease, stir in milk, butter, and 1 tablespoon flour. Simmer for 5 minutes and add salt & pepper for taste. Let stand. If after 5 minutes the mixture isn't thickening, add 1 more tablespoon of flour and simmer for 5 minutes again.

Here's the key if you're going to make it, refridgerate it and then reheat. Reheat it with 1/4 to 1/2 cup milk, NOT water. Water will make it taste , well, watery. Also - I use the same pan I browned the sausage in to make the gravy. If you transfer the meat to a clean pan you'll miss the taste of the drippings and the gravy will be cardboard

Also - I like to add Old Bay seasoning.

Best of Luck

Gravy Cook off

You know if we lived closer together we could have a gravy cook off. I would make the homemade bisquits(grandma's recipe), you guys supply the gravy and we would eat until the land looks level:p :p :p

Hey guys, I really appreciate the posts, and yes it is a shame we don't live closer--that would be a ball.

This is why this fourm is so great--no matter what your situation, someones got the answers. With that said, how about some advice on raising 3 boys age 7, 4 and 3 weeks:D Just kidding!!!
