Ok I have a 95 12 v and im having some trouble im hoping sombody can help... . I take off and it is running great then all the sudden it acts like it looses fuel sometimes it stalls out I take off and it goes good then looses power and then the power comes back and it keeps doing this untill it shifts into od then its not as bad but as I watch the boost gauge it will go up and down slightly has anybody else had this problem? Very frustrating I changed the lift pump and that seemed to work for awhile now its doing it again

Doesn't sound like air to me! Usually if you have air in the fuel sytem you will have "hard start's".

Fuel Shut Off solenoid could be acting up as bundate mentioned.

Overflow valve (on front side of P7100 injection pump toward engine) could be acting up. ( Mechanic said the ball inside of ofv was getting stuck and not letting fuel flow to tank causing the engine to die 30 seconds after I started it but one morning it died it wouldn't start again. He messed with it and got it to work but the next day it started but was not running good so we put new ofv on. That solved that problem

Needs fuel filter changed! ( Mine would start then stumble, died a few times. Once I got it going down the road it was OK. I finally changed filter and all is well now. Also had the screen for the pick-up tube cleaned which probably let junk get into the filter plugging it. )

Thanks bill I will check that next I put a new filter on but didnt help cleaned the screen in the heater as well
had a small leak in the return line fixed that wanna fix it and have it turned up some been looking around on the net but not real sure its my first diesel I heard its the easiest and cheapest 1 to do being the 2nd gen 12v

If you are saying that when speed, terrain and pedal position are constant (steady-state)--or nearly so--and boost still goes up and down, I would suspect:

  • governor springs; they can cause 'unsteady fueling'
  • turbo wastegate: when it opens, boost can drop, which would cause the w. g. to close, which would cause boost to increase, which would cause the w. g. to open, ad infinitum.
I can't think of anything else in the system that works in inverse proportion to fueling. Unless you have a bad charge air hose or cooler.
