Ok my wife wants to sell my other cummins the Silver 93 w/ the topper. Perhaps if I can come up with a better seat arrangment I would be able to convince her that we should keep the silver truck rather than sell it. She does want to sell it for a Jeep Liberty Diesel (not all bad) But I really like my Cummins truck and dont want to sell it. Cheaper than a divorce I guess but any ideas here fellas? I'm loosin this one bigtime & I hate to part with such a pretty Cummins.

So.....

Anybody have some pictures of the upgraded seats and how you are using baby car seats?

Thanks ALOT!

If you don't mind some fab work the rear seats out of a mid to late 90's extended cab chevy fit nicely in the rear and will take a car seat. If you add an aftermarket set for the front seating with a fold down console there is easy access for the child seat and plenty of room to mount it.

I got a rear bench seat kit from them, and I have been using it with a car seat for a while now. It is not the best setup because the seat bottom is pretty short so the car seat over hangs the front of the bench some, but I think it works good enough that I trust my 3 year old in the seat. The car seat I have in the car is a more upright car seat/booster seat(for when the kids get big enough),and it sits a little tilted forward because it hits the rear window/back of the cab,but like I said it works for me. We only really take the truck with the 3 of us when we need to pick up something big,or when we go camping, and it has worked out just fine. The seat is not cheap, but it is nice. I would not get their so called custom fit seat belt bracket for the rear, because it is really just a flat universal fit bar with places to bolt the seat belts. I think you could do just fine rigging up the belts yourself. The seatbelts they sell however are nice high quality belts, and I am glad I got them. Give me some time and I will get you some pics of my truck setup.

Truck or wife

The truck or the wife. I can see where that is a tough one.

We have an 18 month old grand child and I really don't see how one could negotiate the in and out with a rear childs seat. I have a 92 with bench front and 93 with buckets. Putting a kid in the back of either would be very much of a strain. You may be expecting a miracle with a different seat. Get a night job. Keep the second truck. Find a crew cab worthy of conversion and get cracking. Get the Jeep. Pick one or more of the above. A back operation for the wife will be more expensive than either of the above. Your wife is right on this one.

My wife has traveled a few hundred thousand miles with me but with the grandkids, she takes the Intrepid. It isn't the best however. It is too low to the ground when using the child/infant seat. If Dodge had only made the Ramcharger with a rear door, that would be the perfect family car for all us diesel freaks. Just drop a Cummins in and instant diesel socker mom vehicle.

I am sure there are ways to get around the seat problem and wish you good luck on what you choose to do. I would be slow to let a clean low miles first gen slip away.

Check out my readers rides - got 2nd gen seats in my 93. Not the cleanest install but worked great, and shows what amount of spacers are needed to make 'em fit.

Thanks for all the help guys. We are still trying to decide. I hate to sell my other 1st gen as it's in good shape and always been a good truck. The wife is correct that the back seat just will no due on the 1st gen for long trips even with some mods.

We are still thinking about the Diesel Jeep also. Big thing is if somebody buys this truck.

My cousins do have a Crew Cab older dodge that could be persuaded to do a conversion..... I may have to look into that more.

Thanks again... I'm checking out Sam's Rams pic's right now and going to visit the junkyard today. Was out of town all weekend.

Found a seat!

I got a seat out of a 98 at a junkyard with the seatbelts in the seat. Not my first choice but it was all I could find and since I only have 2 more months and alot to do before the event I figured I should get off my duff and get cracking. Plus the seat color matches the interior perfectly.

Anybody have an idea how to wire up the seat belts so they work? I know their is power involved somehow.

Thanks agian guys... .

YOu do not need power to them. Them only thing the power is for is the seatbelt light. I disconnected my light! Now the power for the electric seats, that was necessary! It sure makes long rides nice!

I just finished installing gen 2 seats in my 93 club cab truck. I picked up a full set of 40/20/40 power leather front and rear seats out of a donar 97 pickup. After a little work I got the front seats in the truck and it does ride much better. I am not going to be able to run the rear seat (not enough room) that I picked up that came of out of the donar truck. I am now looking for a different rear seat so that I have the seating room I need for my truck.

Why Not (Chris)

I had to put power my seats because (on my seats) the seat belts won't unreel without the ignition 'on'. We did it a long time ago but I can try to get the wiring schymatic for it. BWhite on the 3rd gen forum did my wiring - he may remember how we did it.

Oh, and the 40/20/40 seats are so unimaginably more comfortable than the stock ones, and made driving the truck feel like... . well it felt like a new truck.
