Which E- Brake?

Atwood Jack Entenders

I've got a Hayes Lemmerz Syncronizer 81725 brake controller that I'm trying to put in my 98 dodge 3500.

I did a search and found info about the brake harness that comes from the factory and the it looks like the previous owner must have used it and then cut the wires to his controller when he traded in the truck.

From the info I found in my search I have hooked the controller in the following manner:

From Harness :

Blue wire = trailer brakes

Black wire = ground

Red wire = power for controller

thin White wire = non-powered stoplight wire

This seemed easy enough but the red light on the controller is always on now. When I push the brake petal it gets brighter.

When I cut the blue wire the light went out.

Now I know from the previous truck that I had this controller that the red light is not supposed to be on all of the time. If I run the tester back on the 7 wire plug I have power to the top terminal all the time.

I need help soon as I'm supposed to pick up my camper in a couple of weeks. I was supposed to pick it up Saturday but they dropped it off the hitch of the tractor when bringing it around and broke the landing gear.

thanks for the help

Controller wire

Sounds like road salt has made it's way into the 7 pin receptacle at the rear of the truck and there is enough bleed between two pins to cause the light to come on. You may have to pull the receptacle out of the housing to find the problem. bg
