I am a 12v guy, but my sister has a 99 24v. Of course the lift pump went out after 60,000 km's (36,000 mi) but before 160,000 km's (100,000 mi). The dealer told her that there was absolutely no way that the lift part is covered after the 60,000 km's. I absolutely despise our local dealership and want them to replace it under the 160,000 "motor" only warranty. Where can I find info on the net where it actualy says that the lift pump is covered. Or is it true that they are not covered. I would like some proof to let my sister take to DC. She is way meaner than me! I checked in the warranty booklet that came with the truck and it almost seems like it is not covered. The items are vague and open to interpretation. Nothing comes up in the search... ... other than 5,000 lift pump threads that make my brain hurt trying to read it all!

Unfortunately, I don't know where you can find the warranty information regarding engine component warranty on the net.

What I can tell you is from my own experience. I also have a 99. My lift pump was on it's way out with very low readings. My truck had approximately 73,000 miles on it and the lift pump was replaced by the dealer under the 100,000 mile engine warranty, no cost to me. This was 2 months ago.

Are there any other dealers in your area? I'm sure many others have had their lift pumps replaced under the engine warranty. Try calling DC regarding this issue.

The way my dealer acted, there wasn't even a question about it being covered under the 100,000 mile portion of my warranty. Based on posts here in the TDR, I had the lift pump on my O1 checked out at 93,000 miles, and since it was reading a lower than normal pressure, they replaced it, no questions, no charge. Ask them to show you the oficial paper work from DC that says it is excluded.

Cummins Inc. uses a warranty manual that specifically tells you what is and is not under warranty, and when maintenance items fall out.

Ask them for a full and complete warranty statement, then read it and read it again. This is the best way to protect yourself against shifty service departments, as well as let you know what modifications could void your warranty.

Lemme see here. She's got an engine under warranty. The engine isn't working properly--but that's NOT under warranty. BULLCRAP!

Find another dealer or do it yourself.

I pulled the filter housing and did it from the top 30,000 miles ago with a Cummins supplied pump--at 58,000 because I wasn't going to be without the truck for 3 days for the BS of the Dodge store.

Not only is it covered under the engine warranty, but it should be covered under the emissions warranty... ..... now I see you are in Canada, and not sure if this is a US thing, but anything remotely having to do with emissions is covered for quite a long time as well. Don't have it in front of me but its in your owners manual.

Example: my fuel gauge sending unit went gunny bag like everyone else's. Gal at local dealer took 30 seconds to look at a computer and then turned the monitor for me to see and yep, there it was, even though I was over the 3/36 and had my own extended warranty, DC covered it under the emissions warranty.

Go figure.

Best advice is to find another dealer.

Do her a favor

Do your Sister a favor and have her new pump installed as a push pump instead of a suck pump and she'll be one very happy lady. I never ever take my truck to a Dealer! They sell trucks for a liveing, mechanics work on trucks for a liveing. Go find a good Mechanic and another Dealer.

I will agree with the others... she may want to find a little more ambitious dealer... . but to answer your question, the owners manual for my 02 has a bar chart that shows how long the different warranties last.

Take a look at his signature guys, He's in Canada! The rules are not the same, DC in Canada and DC in the USA are TWO DIFFERENT COMPANIES, each with their own rules. If his sister traveled to the USA as a visitor, DC might cover her lift pump here. Weird but true.
