Matt400,

Not to rain on your parade, but since when has an automobile manufacturers stuff been better than aftermarket? Someone almost always makes something better than OEM.

The EVS-II system has the Mopar name on it, but is acutally made by an aftermarket company and rebadged. I believe it is made by Audiovox, who also makes other OEM and aftermarket anti-theft systems.

The nice part about going with an OEM system is the Dodge dealer will install it and stand behind the work and the parts. Some of the alarm dealers and installers I've seen I wouldn't trust to park my truck, much less work on it.

I had my truck stolen, I know what it feels like especially near your home, it makes you feel violated. If you had a 6 speed I have heard of guys hooking something up to the cigarette lighter which makes it so that it must be depressed along with the clutch pedal in order to start the truck, I wish I knew how to do that. The worst thing I my case is I got the truck back, I had been driving dads 04 for about 2 weeks before it showed up, I was all jazzed about getting a new truck, especially since the insurance guys and the cops said if it was gone more than 3 days, it was likely gone for good. plus I have a business and would have been able to right off the whole truck on my taxes, to the tune of 5k in my pocket. couple that with having to register and put tires on the old truck, I was licking my chops for a nice cash windfall.

When I got the truck back I was really freaked about having it taken again, one thing I did among many was put the transfer case in nuetral, prolly something that could be figured out, but it might spooke them if they didn't know and the truck wouldn't go.

Lo-jack??

I have the factory alarm system on mine. . Makes me wonder... If mine was taken and returned, Lo-jack would be installed ASAP. . That way, you might find out who is doing it in progress. .

God help the SOB I catch trying to take mine... ... ... .

I had a freshly restored '54 Chevy 3/4 ton stolen in 1991. Never saw it again. Too bad you can't just hang truck-thieves like horse-thieves back in the days of the old West... well ok... maybe that is a little severe, but NOT MUCH!!!

Doesn't sound severe to me. Vehicle thieves, oil tycoons. If they are dirty "Hang them". Maybe we should adopt some middle east standards and cut off the body part used for the stealing. I think I get worse the older I become. Maybe it is because I have seen so much more disgusting things happening to the innocent and not enough harsh penalties to the guilty.

Sounds like they just wired the cigarette lighter in series with the clutch safety switch. Pretty easy to do if you can cut and splice some wires (and modify the end of the lighter itself so it doesn't have such a high resistance - maybe fill the coil with solder). Better to just hide a switch somewhere. I know of people who would mount a reed switch behind the dash, and use a magnet to activate it. You have to know where the switch is mounted - nothing is visible from the outside.

On my '99, I modified the transfer-case shifter - I cut it below the boot, threaded one end, and welded a coupling nut on the other end. This made it removable. I'd shift the T-case into neutral, unscrew the top of the lever, and take it with me. Good luck to anyone trying to drive the truck away with a neutral transfer case, and no (obvious) way of shifting it. :)

sorry about your truck

i live in the far corner of henderson my self

some one stole a very expensive rc car from out of my garage and the hd police said it was fair game, nice huh. so i put up cameras. anyone passing by sees the eyes watching and they keep walkin :-laf

Henderson Police no good??

Geez, sorry to hear your tax paid servants treated you like that. From the sounds of it, Las vegas metro area is kinda rough? Or is Vegas a longs ways away?

I was told down here in this extended oven of HELL, where top pay is $16-19 phr

that my vehicle insurance rates were 20% higher then the San francisco bay area because the Illegals steal everybodys cars and drive them to Mexico...

The auto lock brake petal device is crap it was totaly defeated.

Did you have the Unbrakable Auto Lock? I use them on all my vehicles. Luckily they've never been tested, so I'm wondering how yours was defeated?

* Was the lock picked or broken?

* Was it the barrel or the flat key?

* Was the metal cut, bent or broken?

* Is there a design flaw that was exploited?

I know it's a lot questions that don't solve your problem, but if it helps someone else from experiencing such a loss, then there's some minor consolation.

Thanks,

Neil

P. S. I locked myself out of my truck once. I've never broken into a vehicle before or since, but I was able to unlock the door with a clothes hanger in less than a minute with barely a clue what I was doing. That's scary right there.

i got mine from fryes electronics on lv blvd and sunset. they are small and cheap 30. 00

but they work and they hook into the vcrs. get plenty of tapes and expect to change them every 6 to 8 hrs. thats the poor mans outfit. i got a color one for daytime and a black and white one for night time. place em high so the culprits cant get to them. they vary widely in price. mine were the cheapies but you can get ones with pan tilts and zoom if you have the bucks. and www.x10.com has stuff that you can check out also. i also recommend a motion detector or 2 that sets off an alarm or lights. that will help too.

good luck and i hope you catch them.

Just remember..... drag the body halfway through the front door before the cops arrive and run around screaming "I was afraid for my life, I was afraid for my life!!!!" too bad you can't shhot someone for JUST trying to steal your truck.

In all seriousness, is someone messing with this guy? Really, what are the odds of getting your trcuk pinched out of the driveway twice in 4 days? something else is going on here.

In Texas it is legal to shoot someone trying to steal your vehicle, but only at night. The reason being is that you have no idea if that person is armed or not. Don't try in the daytime.

I was about to say the same thing. You have the right to use deadly force to protect your property at night in Texas. You mean the rest of the country isnt like that???? ;)

I believe it doesn't matter day or night, you have the right to use deadly force in protecting your home, property and family. You also have the right to stop a criminal action that is hurting a fellow citizen. You learn this in a CH class.

What we have to remember although one is released of criminal jurisprudence, the civil action brought on by the perpetrators family can still take away all your possessions. We have nobody but ourselves to thank for this because we allow our elected officials (lawyers) do as they please instead of holding them accountable.

In California.....LOL

I believe in California if someone is stealing, raping or robbing you, you have to offer the poor fella bacon and egg's, a counselor to see if his self esteem will be hurt by calling the police and a "cease fire" ( Like Moon beam Mayor Brown just offered the killers in Oakland)...

Oh and amnesty if he's an illegal alien...

But thankfully, I now live in Az. . :)
