B-52 crew reports UFO over N Dakota

I've seen the red ryder for 19. 99 at Walmart before. I almost bought one for myself :-D with that price. Perfect for plinkin cans. The little one is gonna have some fun trying to plink birds hahah

Winchester 1894 Replica

Get him a Winchester 1894 BB gun. You'll love it.

It's made by Daisy under license from Winchester. Same specs as the original 1894 carbine except weighs just over three pounds. I bought one of these for my grandson last year and he gets annoyed because we have to "take turns" shooting. When he's not around it sits in the gun cabinet right next to my gen-yoo-wine 1894 . 30-. 30. Hard to tell 'em apart.

Bought it at Wallyworld on sale for 50 bucks. Worth every penny. Believe me, you won't be disappointed. As a matter of fact it's so neat... you may want to buy TWO. :)

Note: This is NOT the Red Ryder rifle pictured above. It's an actual replica of the 1894. BTW, I met the real Red Ryder a few years ago at a Friends of NRA Banquet. Little Beaver, however, was nowhere in sight.

Check out the Red Ryder and 1894 here:

Good age to start him.

Join the NRA and then teach him when NOT to shoot it.

The time to shoot will come later.

Of course, I am refering mostly to living things!!

I also nominate the Red Ryder, not only is it a hugely practical BB gun but it is FUN to shoot. There are smaller BB guns, but the Red Ryder has a long lever so even a small kiddo can cock it pretty easy - this can be an important point.

They are not a toy, although low-velocity by airgun standards they will still put a hurtin' on any human tissue they are shot towards. In spite of their cheap construction they are also reasonably accurate. Years ago there was an "Instinctive Shooting" school down in the Southeast (Georgia?) where they taught young folks to shoot with Red Ryders, they were written up in gun mags of the period a few times. With that old BB gun they could hit aerial targets the size of quarters, dimes, aspirins thrown up in the air. In fact they could hit a BB thrown in the air often enough to show it wasn't an accident.

My sons and I have Red Ryders that we shoot, the new ones are still fun to shoot even though not as solid as the Red Ryders of the past. Highly recommended.

Just what I thought.....

I had a red rider, and bought my kids one also - will do the same again - and probably alos buy the 1984 - I saw it and liked it also.

Regarding the NRA - when I was 5 my grandfather bought me a Lifetime membrship - at that time it was $100. I purchased one for my grandson - now it's $750 - but you can also pay it off like this:

Easy Pay Life (EPL) - Pay $25 today and the NRA will mail you a $25 quarterly invoice until the total dues are paid. Your membership status will be upgraded to Life Member when the balance is paid in full.

One of the best investments I can make for him. You guys should so the same for your critters... .

Don't do it... . he'll shoot his eye out.

I can't believe I'm the first one to say that.

Sounds like a California Comment :-laf

If the boy is mature enough, everyone is different, and it taught to be careful, and for the first few months or until he is responsible enough is only allowed to shoot with an adult around then whats the problem with it? If he gets hurt after being taught, then he's the only one to blame. Could not have made it anymore simple than that

My weapon-o-choice is still a BB gun, and I am proud to own a Red Ryder BB gun that I inherited from my older brother as well as a side lever-loaded, bottom-cocked air BB gun that I got for a present when I was younger. :) Not sure which model it is, but it's just a plain old BB gun except it packs more of a punch than the Red Ryder. Yep, shot a black-powder rife, a 20 gauge, and a 12 gauge, and I still stick with the Red Ryder. :-laf It drives women crazy! :D

The Red Ryder is a handy all-purpose tool for a farm kid until he gets a more powerful rifle. It is greating for herding the cows :p, instilling RESPECT in a spurring rooster or a hen that doesn't like having its eggs taken :-laf , and great general purpose medicine to clear out snakes, barn sparrows, rats, mice, etc. I killed enough varmints with mine to easily fill the bed of a truck, definitely not just a toy.

I got one of my first lessons in physics at the hands of the old Red Ryder, namely "the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection". Following all the safety rules my Dad had drilled into me, I shot at the broad side of a tree the first day I had the rifle. The BB came straight back at me in a liquid streak that I still remember :eek: and hit me dead center in the forehead, right between the eyes. YEOWWWW :{

That is why so many eye injuries occur with BB guns, the projectile has such low velocity that it cannot deform a hard surface enough to penetrate, and if fired toward a perpindicular surface (wall, target board, etc) at eye level the BB will quite naturally bounce directly back toward the barrel, which JUST HAPPENS to have a face with a couple of eyeballs gazing raptly in the same direction.

Parents can reduce the chance of eye injury to near zero by getting their kids a pair of shooting safety glasses and making them wear them, and by teaching them to NEVER shoot at perpindicular surfaces like walls, signs etc. If you set them up a target to shoot at, just angle the backstop to make the BBs bounce downward and you are golden.

In addition to the usual safety rules, the BB gun shooter should be thoroughly drenched in the 11th Commandment: "THOU SHALL NOT SHOOT AT A HARD PERPINDICULAR SURFACE LEST THY EYE BE OFFENDED. " It is a rule that most BB gun shooters learned the hard way in the old days, I had a nice welt on my forehead for a week or two to remind me :-laf

Shot my little brother in the leg with the old Red Ryder when we were kids, but that was no accident. I dug the BB out with a jacknife and told him if he said anything to our parents I'd kill him with the next shot. Boy, those were the days.

I shot a girl in the butt when I was younger. It was a perfect example of gun control. I hit exactly where I was aiming.

So tell us Scoot, have ya shot any girls in the butt since ya been older? :p

TMaas,

That ain't nothin', RT66DOC forgot to mention that after he hacked that BB out of his brother's leg he presented him with a bill for $100 for the surgery! A career as a doc was born :-laf :-laf

SORRY DOC, couldn't resist :D

Depending on his size, the Red Ryder may be a bit big.

Here is my son who will be seven next month with the Daisy Buck:

Here he is with the Red Ryder:

He shoots his Chipmunk 22 rifle a lot more than the BB guns and the trigger is a lot easier to pull. The trigger on the Daisys was designed by lawyers :(
