Engine related. The dealer told me I have a broken head bolt on my '98 12v motor. They want about 3 grand to fix. But they also told me that my oil pressure gauge intermittently dropping to zero ment I needed to replace my motor (128k). I found out through TDR members that this is common to that year and I just need to reflash my PCM. So I really need to find someone around here that knows what they are doing!

Any thoughts?

Thanks

For the head bolt issue, I would take to an independent shop such as Rincon Truck Center in San Clemente, they are a authorized Cummins repair facility. In regards to the reflash of the PCM that is Dodge only, you will have to take it to a dealer for that. You may want the independent to put on a mechanical oil pressure guage to see if it is within spec. Rincon's # is 949. 492. 3520 . You should be able to have them give you some sort of guesstament over the phone.

Don

Dude, that dealer is pullin' down your pants a little farther with every word they tell you... Don't go in their again, or agree to any work, or you know what will happen...

Screw the headbolt,, ride it out untill it blows.

Oil pressure intermitently dropping is a known defect with oil pressure sensors...

For a near imaginary problem and a $30 sensor, they are going to rake in some big cash from you.

Don't do it buddy.

Get your HeadBolt replaced by a backyard mecahnic. it is not roscket science, and you don't have to pull the head... AutoZone and Napa Sell replacement oil pressure sensors...

Thanks Guys,

Don, thanks for the number of Rincon, I haven't heard of them but I will check them out. Sounds like what I'm looking for.

Merrick, I hear you buddy! I don't think I'll be going back to that dealer.
