Ford Wastegate Question

oil dilution

I have the following injectors and injection pumps from a John Deere model 'R' tractor. They are made by Bendix-Scintilla.

Injectors: Type HB 125

Injection pumps:

Type: FBV-10

Specification: 10-32230-1

Date: 9-28-48

They need to be cleaned, rebuilt, and calibrated. I have been to a number of local diesel shops and they tell me they can't/wount touch them. Many tell me thay cannot calibrate the rack. There are no NEW or USED assemblies avalible. Therefor ability and compentncy are more important than price.

Any info. will be appriciated. Hoping to have the tractor back together by next sept.

Here is a picture of the items. (hopefully)

Mike

Have you gave Scheid Diesel a call yet? I would really like to see a picture of your "R" when you get it done. I would love to find one to restore.

Mike - might try Central Motive Power in Denver. The've been in the fuel business a long time and seem to know what the're doing. Rocky Mountain TDR spent a day at theif facility. Give 'em a call at 1-800-822-4332.

Hello:

Are you very close to Columbus Ohio? Columbus Diesel Supply might be able to help you out. I believe their # is 800-818-PUMP, they also have a web site. I've heard they're pretty big. Might want to call them and see what they can do for ya.

Gerhardt's in Louisiana is another possibility. If they can't do it, maybe they can steer you to someone who can.

I did a lot of those where I used to work:

Wentland Diesel Service.

www.wentlanddiesel.com

Some of the parts are getting to be obsolete, but fortunately, they usually don't require all the pieces be replaced. Usually, one or two injectors will need a valve, and we tried to clean out any plugged holes in the tips using the wires and sonic cleaning.

Some of the tips for that style of injector are now available only from Deere, and the price is very dear - no pun intended.

Why do you think you need them rebuilt? What's the symptom? Of the ones we got in,very few had any catastrophic (causing symptoms) failure.

Now the pumps... that's another story. We never did those ourselves, but send them to one of our suppliers. Never enough work in those to justify the tools.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks to all for the replies. I will call around to the places mentioed after the holidays.

Power Wagon: The head had a crack at the number one cylinder. Went from the valve seat of the exhaust valve across the injector opening and down the intake valve seat. Beleive it or not it ran. would start on one cylinder (#2) and then pick up #1 after about a minuite of running.

Because of this eveyting in #1 is very carboned up. I tested the output from the injectors, and pumps by turining the engine over with the pony motor for 2 min. and measuring the output. Not equal so I assumed the pump rack neededs to be calibrated.

(This is a real Diesel 420 Cubic inches out of 2 cylinders. You all sould hear it when it is under a load. )

Thanks again,

Mike

Hey, there's a guy near Latrobe that does J. Deere equipment and I will try to find his number. E-mail me so I don't loose your thread here.

Looks like it was eating water big time.

I do not know much about those, except that the pumps themselves appear to have little to no individual adjustment, and it looks like you adjust the rack position to equalize fuel between them.

The injectors can usually be cleaned up pretty good without spending the big bucks for new valves or spray tips. It's not like this tractor is now a major contributor to a farm operation, right?

Cost for doing so is roughly in the 15-20 buck range each, including the new gaskets and the labor.

injectors

I found the number Watt's Fuel Injection (724) 532-1310 in Latrobe PA. I work over there so if he can help you I can help you get them to him. I also live near the turnpike at New Stanton.

Power Wagon: I don't think it was water that caused the pitting, I think it was from all the extra fuel that would build up in the cylinder untill it started running on it. All in the past anyhow, I found a replacement head from a tractor salvage yard in Ohio.

You are right that the only adjustment is in the connection between the two pumps.

mike r: Thanks I will give him a call. I need to go that direction after the holidays anyhow. I am going to take the crank (I can't belive how big this thing is. ), pistons, cam, bearings, and block to a friend of mine in central PA. Only thing is he can't do the injector work. If Watts Fuel Injection can do the work maybe I can get the stuff to you at that time, or directly to him.

Mike

Mike, Just let me know and I'll be glad to help. If we can weld 4 more rod journals on the crank and 4 mains then just think what our ISB's could do! :D

Lets see 2 cylinders = 420 cubic inches

Then 6 cylinders = 1260 cubic inches :)

That would be interesting anyhow. Only thing is you would need a 1 ton axle up front to support it. As is the crank is over 300 lbs.

Mike

Hey Mschevey,

Let me know who does your pump work on your R. I just bought an R yesterday from a man in Mason City, Iowa. I'm going to head up on the 4th and pick it up.

Smoker: Let me know what the serial number is, when you get it. I will try to post a picture of the tractor in its current state just to let you know what not to get yourself into.

Right now mine is 95% taken apart is hard to believe a almost 5 ton tractor will brake down into mainly pieces you can pick up and move. Spent all of last weedend removing the axles from the final drive housings. This weekend I hope to have all the bearing races and seals pulled so I can get the housing steam degreesed.

Well good luck and drive safe while picking it up. :)
