Currently in Salt Lake City, Utah and traveling to Sacramento. The exhaust gasket between my manifold and turbo blew out so I'm not getting any boost. I'm towing about a 6000lb load so with no boost and these hills, it pretty much sucks. Traveling for the last day trying to keep the exhaust temp below 1000*. The exhaust blowing through the gasket has eroded the turbine housing away so when I finally found a Cummins shop open on Sunday to get another gasket, the gasket wouldn't seal. I tried doubling the gaskets up but it still was not enough. So, I'm going to keep trucking and hopefully find someone with a turbine housing they are willing to sell. This is for a 98 12-valve. My current housing is a 16 but will be happy to find a stock 12 replacement. So if someone has one somewhere between Utah and Sacramento, PLEASE call me at <deleted>. Thank you very much!

I called BWatson and passed him a couple of good contact phone numbers in the SLC area, hopefully he will get some help soon :)

Justin, RIGHT ON!!!! I knew if I could find your number that you would do the best that you could with what you had available.

Thank you

Bob

BWatson, this is what the TDR is all about Oo.

Member helping Member :D and I am very proud of that :)

Thanks for the help guys. . This place is invaluable!! I'm traveling with Brian (bwatson) in a goup headed for the Rubicon.

Brian's about 300 miles behind us now and his troubles continue. Now he keeps blowing the rubber boot off his intercooler! He's going to stop for the night in Reno and try to find a dealer and get a new boot. Hopefully we won't run into any more problems once that's fixed!

the best dealer in the area is down in Carson City [at the south end of town on HWY 395]... he can go over Hwy 50 to get to his Rubicon runHwy 50 is just a mile or two from the dealer I spoke about... unless they are using the Homewood staging area. . but he can still go Hwy 50 to 89 north out of south shore Tahoe to Homewood. .

also Forrest Wolf is in Reno . . here is his E-mail addy

I'm on the other side of the mountains near Yosemite Park about 3+ hrs from the sorthern entrance to Rubicon via Wenthworth springs/Ice House]... if he has a real trouble e-mail me direct at -- email address removed --

I bet its the same boot that was blown off when he got to my house... His truck has a huge oil leak that coated the boot, and probably the intercooler where it hooks on. I told him about the little hairspray trick. He just needs to use throttle body cleaner to get it super clean.

Good luck you guys. Keep us informed.

I just received a message from BWatson... he said that they made it to Reno where they bought a new intercooler boot. Brian said that it seems to be holding and they did make it to their destination.

He also wanted me to express his thanks for all the help...

Rick

Finally made it back home. A HUGE THANK YOU has to go out to Bob for the very fast reply to my post and giving me Justin's number. Thanks Justin for the housing, letting me wrench in your driveway, and giving me the hairspray trick. Alan and I kept cleaning off the boot and putting it back on with no luck. We'd go about 20 miles and it would blow off again. So I picked up a new boot and some new clamps from a dealership in Reno. Huge difference in the two boots. The new one was much stiffer and a way tighter fit. They are very proud of their little rubber boots though. $200 for a boot and a couple clamps :--) :{ . But it got me to the Rubicon in time for one day of wheelin so it was worth it. Thanks again guys! TDR rocks! Justin... I'll PM about settling on the housing.

Thanks also to Rick for your tireless contribution to my truck. I know I'm always calling you for something. Thanks Willyslover for the offer. Thanks Marc for bringing your wireless internet thing. On the way home I had a wheel bearing hub assembly (that I replaced just 2 months ago) wear out to the point that the wheel was so cambered in that the rotor was rubbing the knuckle. We found a parts store with a hub assembly, rotor, caliper, and pads and after a couple hours of wrenching in a parkinglot somewhere in Selina, Kansas I was on the road again. Though I had a lot of problems, the trip turned out awesome overall... Thanks to TDR!!!!! Now to fix that dang oil leak!

Brian, Glad to hear you made it home and that you enjoyed your eventful trip.

I also watch the 911 forum and I was happy that I could help you :)
