well, it started yesterday i was smelling a strong "burnt oil" smell but it went away and i thought it was just coming from outside. today i was on my was to a town over and i smelt it again as i came to a stop in the same place i had smelled it yesterday. picked up a buddy and went on drove about 10 or so miles and smelled it again and then heard a screeching noise so i pulled to the shoulder and turned off the air conditioner and the noise stopped. truck ran completely perfect and nothing out of the normal. on the way home i raced a buddya dn truck was completely cool. got home about 30 mins ago and decided to take a look at the air conditioner and when i opened the hood the engine was soaked with oil. mainly the passenger side. the alternator and the fan and front of engine and the complete passenger side fender even, checked the oil and it was at the add line so i dont think i ran it too low, whats up, does it dound like my killer dowl pin? thats all i can think it would be, however where do i go from here? i am a rookie to this stuff. any help at all appreciated, thanks

KDP stricks again.

It's probably the KDP. Might be something else but that's the most likely suspect. E-mail me for info (tab fix) or get hold of illflem(jig fix). E-mail address is in my sig below.

Could be KDP but also refrig. compressor seal blowout. Ihad it happen once in a car. Oil from system all over the place and was one big mess. Just another possibility. May not be it!!!:)

I know several people including myself that have the same problem with oil filter seals. put on a new oil filter and it will go away till next filter sael leaks. tightening doesn't seem to help. I only use Cummins filters.

i checked the oil filter first. no such luck. i wonder if it could be the refrig. compresor seal? i dont know anything about that. i am definately a rookie but it does squeel when i turn on the air. i just thought it was the kdp and the oil all over the place was causing the squeel. how would i go about checking this? thanks again guys

As I posted in the other forum, sounds like an AC system failure - oil from the AC will blow all over the place - do you still get cold air? If not, that's your problem - and if run without oil in the system, may have damaged the AC compressor - but better than the engine!

i have not checked for cold air yet, i am scared to start truck to be honest. one question though, if it is the a/c would this cause my engine oil level to drop? keep in mind my limited knowledge, but i am learning.

Dusty,

I just sent you an e-mail discussing the repair if it is the KDP. I was in a hurry in my reply above because it was quitting time at work and I was heading for a six hour drive. The remarks about the KDP fix were directed at those who haven't had this happen to them YET.

Again, those of you who haven't had this happen block the KDP ASAP! Cheap to prevent, big hairy deal to repair the damage if it falls out.

Joe G. I sent dusty the instructions also and he lives close to me (2 hour drive). Dusty I forgot to tell you in the E-mail that you need to clean up all the oil and concentrate around the assy area but be carefull cause if it's cracked you fill you pan with water, if indeed it is cracked there is a possibility that it can be patched up with the front cover off instead of pulling the cam to get the back off, just depends on the case. I'm going to be at the races here in OKC today so when you get it cleaned up and find out what it is call me on my cell 405-514-3924 so I know were your at.

Jim

i cleaned it up today at least as best i could without using water. ( i am afraid to get water in the oil if there is a crack) i started it and reved and what not looked all over from abov4e and beneath and nothing, also the truck was completely normal sounding and running. so i decided to turn on the a/c and see if that made a difference. i turned it on and looked and looked and found nothing BUT when i revved the engine with the a/c on, it made a loud high pitch sqeueeling sound? any suggestions? thanks in advance,

du$ty

man am i missing driving my truck. :(

IF you turn the AC off, and THEN rev the engine, does the squealing go away? Could be belt slipping when the AC compressor is under load, or bad compressor bearings or other internals - and I still think the oil is from the AC system...

If the belt itself is slipping/squealing when the AC is engaged, could be from oil getting on the surfaces - might need to apply some belt dressing to clean things up - the squeal MAY be the LEAST of your actual problem...

another post cleanup report

well, i have a guy in the next town over that is VERY knowledgeable on these trucks(extremely), i called him this afternoon and he told me that it was more than likely my kdp and i needed to take fan belt off and clean extra good again, then start it rev a little to let the oil pressure in case get rockin and then look for leak underneath the fan hub. i did this, i maticulously cleaned the engine with brake cleaner and took the belt off, then cleaning even more i started it. i revved it for awhile then even more and let it idle for a sec or two then (i cycled the a/c while revving, i dont know if it would even work without belt but just curious to the results i would get) and nothing no noise or nothing out of the norm. i looked and looked and found no oil at all around the hub but i did see just a bit that looked a little shiny above the fan hub to the left, right under where the alternator bolts to the block, just a bit and it could have been some i didnt get removed. i dont think i stuck my hand in this crevice to clean very thoroughly. oops, well guys any thoughts. i am going to call the guy (Ron) in the am and tell him about my results and see if maybe he will come look for himself as i am cautious to drive it not having evaluated the prob for sure.

still tryin... ... .
