Hello all an happy holidays

1998 Qc longbed automatic 4x4 62000 miles

The noise i am trying to pin point kind of sounds like tire whine when you have off road tires on asphalt. It comes and goes but it seems to be loud in the morning when I first get going. the sound also sounds to be "out of round" if you know what i mean(louder in one section then quieter as it completes a revolution. ) It happens in neutral also/ check my U joint and they seem to be ok. The carrier bearing seems to be tight but i dont know if I should check it a certain way. I installed a suspension lift on my truck in the beginning of the year. I seem to get a little bit of shudder on takeoff( I can feel it in the steering wheel) a friend of mine said it could be bearings in the rear? I would need to pull the carrier and shims and check the bearings for wear.

I also have another issue but dont know if it is related to above. Occasssionally when I depress the brake pedal lightly, I get a knocking sound that sounds as if something is out of round again. (it knocks then spins around and knocks again) If I hit the brakes hard it doesnt happen. The rotors are a little out of round(the caliper jumps slightly) but not enough to make thsi sound ( I think anyway). This is also intermittent(it happens for a few days and seems to go away) IT seems like it comes from under the truck bu tit is hard to tell as with the whining sound above.

Thanks for any suggestions. I tried to describe it as best I could. Please feel free to ask for more info

it almost sounds to me liek the lift has your front d/s bound up, or you may have a bad front axle u joint.

As for the shudder you are talking about, I would guess it's axle wrap and nothing else. Some traction bars should fix it.

The whining noise I would guess is something in an axle or transmission. When's the last time you changed the fluid?

The knocking sound you described may be your spare tire (not trying to be smart). Happened to me, the cable that the spare tire is held up by got loose somehow and rattled around sometimes. Took me forever to figure it out.

If that's not it. I would check the rear brakes. Mine made a knocking "out of round" type sound like you described when my rear wheel seal blew and rear end dope get into the drum. If thats the case, it will get worse.

Otherwise, I'm stumped.

Hope some of this helps.
