I'm pretty left handed when it comes to mechanics but today installed Piers boots on truck. Job went well but when started back up had very limited torque. Seems like boost leak?? Also chk engine light, water in fuel light on. Oh yes when I finished I gave the engine a good wash down soo... wet conections may be a problem? The only boost connection that lookd doubtful is the metal to metal hose conection right below the turbo charger. I may have broken the seal. What type of seal is it?? Clamp looks OK but I had loosened it up to low more wriggle room during instalation.

I know this is pretty basic but I need the truck Wed to pick up my sister in Albany, aprox 4 hrs away. They just totaled their truck and trailor and need a lift with their salvage home. It is a very bad time for me to screw up on what seems a basic repair.

Advise please.

Desperate is Montreal.

its a round gasket that fits in groves between the Turbo and the metal line ... .

If you can tell a tQ loss then you should be able to tell if its leaking there .

I haven't been able to asertain that it is leaking there I am still getting 15- 20 lbs of boost but very sluggish and at high rpms. Is there a way of verifing where it is leaking?? Wis involved in changing this gasket. Seems when I loosened it the clamp pulled away from the pipe on one side but stayed stuck on the other, hence why I think I may have ripped the gasket. Is it just a matter of unclamping the clamp to access the gasket?

You mean the aluminum elbow from the compressor outlet to the hump hose? There is an orange o-ring in there.

Watch it. I'm not the only southpaw wrench here. Don't need us banding together and getting all medieval on your butt. :p :p :-laf :-laf

My appoligies, No insult meant. I should watch my language. I am still trying to figure out how what type of connection I am dealing with. Do the pieces but together, bayonet one inside the other or what. Trying to figure out what force to use to get at the gasket.

I wasn't insulted. That's why the smilies and stuff. :) No biggie. :-laf Just poking back. ;)

Wellllllllll. I drew a picture to show what it looks like, but I can't figure  out how to post it.

Ya, the one piece that just fits inside the other is the piece that has the o-ring on it. Once the clamp is off, it is self-explanatory.

Will bang at it tomorrow and try to see what I can see. Do you have to only undo the one clamp to get it apart? Does it come apart easily or... .

Thanks for the imput, Have no garage and it is half past midnight here now so it will wait for morning light.

Of course Cummings is closed for labour day. Check engine light still on. Does it have to be cleared or does it indicate an ongoeing problem? Water in fuel light came on also but I'm pretty sure that is wet contacts.

Open the fuel filter drain with engine running this should clear WIF light. Pretty sure code needs to be cleared - if there's an Autozone near you I think they read codes for you free - they would probably clear if for you. Good ol' 99's - can't do the 3 on-off-on key thing to read codes on odometer. I think Pep Boys had a mini OBDII reader on sale in the local paper this Sunday for $69. Mine has come in handy with more than just my truck. Hope this turns out easy for you so you can help out your sister as planned. Good luck.

Parks, you were right on. Van Aiken box was the culpert. Once disconnected no error codes showed and the overboost cut off stopped shutting down the boost. I had dissconnected the fuel connection to the Van Aiken box but forgot that it also was connected to the map.

Running fine now but no box connected. Guess I will have to shop for another but am very dissappointed that this one only lasted 2 yrs. On the other side, trip to Albany with no load made at 21. 3 mpg. Havent seen that before.

Thanks All

Ron
