My front headlights will only work on high beam, when I click it down to low beam, I get nothing. I assume there is a relay somewhere??? Are the high and low beams fused seperately?

Thanks,

Rick

Rick;

There is a Multi-function switch on the steering column under the cover between the wheel and the dash. Some guys have replaced this switch and took care of the problem. I took mine apart [ top cover] and looked in to it, the lube in there gets dry and stiff and does not let the contacts work as they should for connection. If you do this you'll need some tamper proof trox bits, they have a hole in the center of the bit because of the prong on the trox bolt. Don't remember what I did as far as lube is concerend, there is electrical conductive lube around you'll have to search for it. but any way what ever it was I did it is still working [knock on wood]

I had a similar problem a few months ago. It turned out to be a faulty light switch. The switch was almost completely fried. The dealer said there is a corrective action notice for the switch. I had to buy a switch kit which included new connection. I had to cut out the old connector from the harness and wire in a new one. The kit, which is a dealer only item cost me over a hundred bones:mad: That was with me doing the labor. But no more fried switches. DaveB

Did you try to raise the tilt steering? Mine looses the low beams when the steering is down. There is a broken connection someplace when the wheel is down.

I second the trying the tilt function. Mine did this on my '02 and it wound up being a loose pin connection in the steering column connection. There is a connection in the steeing column that has like 15-20 pins in te connection and this is where it was loose. When tilted up the wire would make connection and when tilted down it would pull and lose electrical connection. The entire harness could have used an extra inch or wire and there would never had been a problem.

But let's save a penny and make the wires as short as possible.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the responses, so far I have only had a chance to check the bulbs, they seem to be good (resistance through them).

Try the bulbs with a known good 12 volt source and some jumper wires. But I'd bet a hamburger dinner at a place of my choice that it's your switch, or your multifunction switch. Summit racing sells a retrofit kit with two relays that only runs a trickle of current through the OEM switches. I put that in a number of years ago to prevent heat damage to the OEM switches. It also slightly brightened the headlights.

The dealer (Luke in Phoenix) replaced my multifunction switch under warranty, just days before the warranty ended. I had also lost low beams. Uppers worked just fine. The replacement multiswitch hasn't given me any more trouble. If yours is original to the truck, it's shot.
