Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Help No overdrive!

Driving down highway in 5th gear today, noticed that truck was suddenly coasting :{ had to downshift to 4th to exit and figure out what is going on. 1st-4th and rev. seem ok. What may the trouble, and is there a way to check w/o pulling transmission right away. I have had this truck for appx 11000 miles, has 171000 on it. No idea what has been done by prev. owner other than obvious mods. below.

You may have lost a solinoid in the transmission. A good shop will be able diagnose with little monetary damage.
