Archived HELP! No shifting on 2006 48re

We just got back from vacation and I was backing the trailer into the yard. I put it in neutral, switched to 4low to get over the curb, put it back in neutral, put it in 2hi, now I have have NO gears. I checked the neutral button on the the transfer case switch (electonic shifter), but it is not in neutral. When I try to put it in Park with the engine running, it grinds. I can get it in with the engine off and the key in the on position. I can run it through the gears doing that. Any ideas? Guess I'll have to park the trailer with the old 97!

Transfer case, try putting it back into 4lo or high and moving it then, if you can shift from 4lo to high on the move do that, then to two wheel.

Transfer case is in neutral. You need to be moving at a very slow crawl when shifting in and out of low range, approximately 2-3 mph and transmission in neutral. To get it back in, let the truck roll while trying to shift the transfer case and the auto in neutral

Can this happen with the electronic transfer switch? I called the service dept at Carson Dodge. They had me do a few different things, then said, "Something is broken". Had me call DC Roadside and have it towed in. I hope it's something as simple as the t-case in neutral, but I'm not holding my breath. I did roll the truck forward a little and tried shifting back and forth between Hi and Low, nothing happened. I hope the rubber floor mats from Costco don't void the warranty!

My neighbors' '04 F-350 electronic transfer case failed on his first trip to the desert. Buddies had to tow him out. He brought it into the dealer which necessitated a new servo. The techs called him back into the service bays and showed him which tools to bring in order to manually shift the transfer case. Two co-worker's Toyotas did the same thing at about 50,000 miles. The light on the dash claimed "4x4 engaged" but no dice. You're not alone.

Got a call from the dealer today. It works fine. Shifts as it should etc. Don't know what caused it to have a "false neutral". (my term, not theirs) I'm wondering if I didn't follow the directions correctly on the electronic shifter and when it got pulled onto the truck, it bumped it back where it should be. Got to read the manual again! I guess I'd rather have it be something I did or didn't do than a busted transmission or T-case.

This is a good example of why I did not and would not get an electronic shift transfer case. Just one more thing that can go wrong. (Even though this might not be the problem in this case. )

I agree, Tinman, but my choices were limited to what was on the lot and they didn't have any shifter type tcase trucks. I guess I could have had the dealer look around, but when the wife says OK, you move!
