This past weekend I changed my oil. Put the 10 or so quarts of oil in a container, put it in the bed of the truck, so that I could drop it off at a gas station. Well evidently the lid came off during my commute yesterday. I now have oil all over the place. All over the bed liner, all over the driveway, and who knows where else. My question to everybody here is. How do I clean up my truck, and also what is the best way to remove the oil from my concrete driveway.

I use use Castrol Super Clean to clean up the mess when hydraulic hoses blow out on my farm equipment,it is 100 times stronger than Simple Green. Since I started useing it my pressure washer has been idle. Just don't let the concentrate get on aluminum,it's safe for paints. On the bedliner just spray it on and rinse off,on the concrete you will have to scrub a little. I get it at NAPA,but most autoparts and hareware stores also carry it.

Look on the bright side. The driveway won't rust now! #ad

May $0. 02 worth. You can also use cheap catlitter as a cleaner of driveway. Its nothing but clay . Just spread it out and srub with a piece of wood, back of push broom or whatever. Works great and will pick up oil and cleans the driveway. Cheaper the stuff from parts store.

We always used rice hulls to clean spills in the shop but at home I have a bag of cement and laundry detergent. Wash off the oil in the concrete by using a laundry detergent mixed with water to form a paste and smear over the stains. Keep the paste wet and on the stains for about 2 hours then, rinse off. Scrubbing with a worn out broom helps too. Let it dry and then apply the cement powder. The dry cement will absorb any left over oil from the laundry detergent cleaning and will impart a nice white powder coating on the concrete. It will look brand new!

Well, I have started by pressure washing the driveway and spreading kitty litter everywhere, I'll see how that works, to start. Still not sure what to do about the bedliner, don't want to use anything too harsh !

Jeff, I'd try the kitty litter in the bed liner too. I use kitty litter in the garage all the time. Once you get most of it out with the kitty litter I'd finish the job with simple green - should be any problem.

Jeff, you should really give Super Clean a try,it will cost less than five bucks for a 1 qt. spray container. It's biodegradable and not harsh at all,I use it to wash my greasey hands. I think once you try it you will be sold on it as I was.

Don't know what's in it, but Tide (the laundry detergent) works great on the concrete. If the stain persists and bugs you which it will #ad
muriatic acid (HCl) from the pool supply next summer will lift the stains. The coin-op car wash for the truck. IMHO Joe

PS Gosh Jeff, personally I haven't been that clumsy or stupid for about 11 weeks now - you should have seen my mess #ad

I did this a couple of weeks ago. I had 15 gal of used oil and to make a long story short 2 of the containers cracked and I had the Exxon Valdez in my bed. I used castrol superclean.

Make sure you clean under the truck.
p. s. I went to the coin wash to clean my truck. And they recycle the water. so by the time I was done washing my truck the oil was in the water and was being sprayed back on the truck.

you guys all need to give up on your diy oil changes and drive to me, we wont spill it in your bed either. put your ams, or whatever you want back in, even get you FG filters too... .
I dont think that is very long of a drive to go to a shop that loooooves the 5. 9 cummins and will take care of it right.....

by the time you drive home it might need to be done again though... ... ... ... .

just joking..... Brandon

Seriously, the oil eater product available at costco's works pretty well and you can get it in gallons at a reasonable price. Use the oil eater after super fine floor dry and it should be gone. oil eater is good multipurpose cleaner at reasonable price

Well, it is raining here now. Hopefully this weekend the cleanup will begin. Illflem, the Castrol sounds good but you mentioned something about not getting it on Aluminum. I have an Aluminum truck box and Carr steps, how would they be affected if I get some on them ?

Jeff,
The rain will wash the Oil down the storm drains, and may pollute local streams & rivers. Maybe you should call your local EPA field office and ask what to do. #ad

Jeff, the consentrated super clean will make spots on aluminum,if you wet the aluminum first it won't hurt it. When I was in the auto parts today I noticed a bottle of super clean that said "new formula good for aluminum wheels". I didn't have time to check it out, perhaps you should. I buy super clean in 2 1/2 ga. jugs and now use it in my parts washer instead of solvent, much easier on the hands and easier to remove than solvent. This is how good the stuff is-I poured a 1/2 cup of it in just emptied 5 ga. bucket of 90wt gear oil, shook it up and rinsed with hot water, the bucket now looks brand new, not a trace of oil. What super clean is an emulsifier,it makes oil mix with water, different mode of operation than a detergent.

We use citrus solvent at work.

I dont think it'll hurt the paint, unless you leave it on a looonnng time.

I tried a gallon of it, on sale for 5 or 6 bucks. It worked o. k. , but I should have taken them more seriosly about not getting it on the aluminum. I had to wax my vbalve cover afterwards to get it looking good again.
