I posted a thread on here about 6 weeks ago about a buddy's truck getting oil in the water and alot of it. everyone said oil cooler or head gasket, which is what I had allready figured but wanted to double check. We took the oil cooler off and pressure tested and found no leaks but to be sure I bought one off e-bay out of an 01 and put in it, didn't help at all. So last weekend we put a head gasket on it and that didn't help at all either, so I'm stumped. what else can it be. The truck is a 98 12v bone stock. Thanks

A crack in the head or block the water jackets/passage are right next to the oil jackets/passages. The engine/head/block would have to be exrayed to find it especially if it was a heat crack.

This is the only other way that I know of oil could be introduce to the coolant besides the oil cooler and head gasket.

You should look for the cause to be an area of the engine where there is water pressure but not oil pressure such as a cylinder, the block, or the head. The oil cooler has pressure from the oil when the engine is runing that would put oil into the water, then when the engine is shut down the oil pressure drops but the water pressure is still up putting water into the oil.

There hasn't been any water get in the oil even after it has set over night. In just a 14mi. trip to town and back it will put about 3 qts. of oil in the water. It will push it out of the overflow bottle. The bottle will pretty much be all oil. I didn't have the head checked maybe I should've. How would the freeze plugs cause this?

No water in the oil, then I would guess the head Most of the time when you have water in the rad and not in the oil pan its the oil cooler but you changed the oil cooler so it must be the head.
