This evening I discovered a drip under my 2007 5. 9 3500 SRW. I took a picture and would appreciate any ideas on what part its coming out of and what might be the problem.
The drip is to the rear of the oil pan. You can see the fluid coming out.
I had a leak similar to yours and it was coming from one of my antifreeze hoses by the firewall. I tightened the clamp and it went away. Could be coming from top and riding to bottom. Why don't you check all your hoses, wipe everything clean and try to locate the origin by crawling around while the truck is running. Wipe the fluid with your finger and try to identify it. Hope this helps.
I agree with SS... if you are facing the engine (looking over the passenger side fender), on the lower left there is a hose that connects your heater core to the engine (the rubber hose bridges metal tubing and has a metal foil cladding). Start at the inspection cover on the transmission and work your way backwards from there and you should find the leak at one of the clamps. Or just run a white paper towel on the bottom of the rubber hose and you should find your light orange coolant leak.
I just had the same thing... a misterious leak dripping from the bottom of the bell housing. Turned out to be a seeping water pump gasket... ran down the block, hit the pan reinforcing rib, ran along the rib to the back of the block, end up dripping from the bottom of the bell housing. I had visions of MAJOR problems because by the time it got to the bottom it had oil residue and dirt and didn't look/smell like anti-freeze.
I'll add... mine lost approx 1 gallon of coolant through that leak. It just drips down on the transmission and then collects on the access cover like in your picture. In your picture the fluid is orange, just like the coolant.
i had the same problem a few weeks back. the color was darker and it turned out to be a main seal. but i think that some of the previous posts makes sense... ... thats good advice.
Well you guys gave some good advice. I think it is indeed a coolant leak. Its the same color as the coolant under the cap. I traced it along a ways before I lost it. I tightened some clamps and will watch and see.
Like SS said, check on the back of the exhaust manifold, there are hoses back there that could leak. I had the same problem with mine and i had to get new clamps (screw type) after that the leak went away
Same problem here maybe 6 months back. Noticed it dripping from the bottom of the bell housing and coolant started getting low. Turned out to be the hose clamp on a short hose near the back of the exhaust manifold. Tightened it up and problem solved.
I had same problem on my 07, 5. 9, coming from the bell housing, was red, ended up being a transmission cooler return line came little bit loose, tightened it up no more drip!
I discovered a small leak coming from the area of the bellhousing. Took the truck to the dealer just before my warranty was about to run out. They told me that I had a bad seal behind the Tq converter and they needed to tear it down to repair at my expense because I am running an after market Tq converter.
Whle they were continuing with their inspection, they discovered a warn track bar and leaking steering box which they did cover. I told them I would take care of the tranmission leak.
Went to Brown's Diesel. Reb removed about 1 pint of fluid as it was slightly over full and coming out of the weep hole. Presto... ... ... no more leak. If the dealer had their way, I would have paid them big bucks for a total BS repair.
