Help on Cooling Camopy for Dogs.....idea

OK I have to travel to a bunch of soccer games with grand kids, and we take our two yellow labs everyplace... ... canopy is a 6 inches higher than the cab. Been racking my brain as to how to keep my dogs safe for up to two hours in full sun..... the shell is dark green. I have been racking my brain... .



1. What about putting say 15-20 big blocks of ice (in plastic bags) and a blanket over them... the thought is that they would lay on the cold blanket ... ... I realize it wouldn't reduce the inside temp much but close to the ice. . laying would certainly keep them cool..... maybe to cool... .

3, I was also thinking of just putting a portable room AC... . and run it off a gen... .

I think option 3 is the best idea. Biggest problem is different areas have different laws about pets in cars. I don't know if they care one way or another if there is an air conditioner in the vehicle.

I like the AC idea myself, but it is probably the most expensive and least practical.



Any possibility of just leaving the dogs home when it is extremely hot out? Our local news has been running stories about how Animal Control is citing dog owners and/or confiscating dogs when they are left unattended in the heat, whether they are in a vehicle or simply outside a residence. If it is happening in western PA, it could happen anywhere. Personally, I think we could be using our tax dollars a little better, but that's just my opinion and I consider myself a dog lover.

Agree with Option #3 as well, even if the ice thing worked out someone would spot the dogs in there and make the wrong assumption.



Which is alright by me that people care about animals in the heat and are not shy about bringing attention to it if neglect is suspected.



The A/C unit and generator would be a visual and audible statement to the concerned passer-by that your dogs are doing just fine back there and are being well cared for.

I hate to overstate the obvious, but the price of the portable ac and the the generator would cost more than a seat blanket for the cab and the fuel to keep the truck running.



That is what we do with ours but they are significantly smaller than labs.
