I was wondering how you all have done this. Should I drop the turbo or just drill and use a magnet to get the stuff out. I am installing pre-turbo. I have my Isspro gauge and would like to get it into my truck so when my #11 plate and AFC spring kit comes in I can get them into my truck and see how it runs.

I would also like to give a general thanks. I have read the TDR for some time, yet did not get involved because my truckl had under the 100000 and I wanted to wait till DC no longer cared. Even though I don't know if they ever cared.

Thanks to this site I got my Bilstines at 54. 95 and installed them last Friday. Just love the way the truck handles and rides now. Can't wait till all the rest of the parts are installed

I have drilled for a few pyro's

What I do is to remove the 4 bolts from the turbo and pull it foward a few inches and then cover the turbo with duct tape and drill away, then you can give the ol finger sweep inside the exhaust manifold when done. thats how I do it... ... ... ... ... ... Kevin

Welcome aboard my friend... ... ... cheers:D  :D

BFC I love the bag on the head trick it cracks me up every time I see it :-laf :-laf :-laf

Welcome in Daz:

For the pyro install I did the vacuum cleaner, grease and magnet thing. To me the thing that was more important was the depth of the tap. To deep and the probe won't tighten up. Also be sure you place the center punch in the right location for the drilling.

Not a bad job at all.

Be careful!

I didn't personally do the pyro install, but watch them do it. They took the turbo completely off. Had it off in five minutes.

I use grease on the drill and tap followed it up with a magnet. Then kick the engine over several times without starting it. Seems to have worked fine. Also, it help to remove the air cleaner and hose to the turbo inlet to get better manifold access.

I used a center pod with three guages, access is through the heater control panel.

Good Luck, the guages are really cool. Iapro EV in color

I used the non-turbo removal method as well. The thing that saved my backside was a magnet that Sears sells. It is a powerful little magnet on a flexible wire shaft. I was able to snake that thing down into the turbine scroll and all the way down the back half of the exhaust manifold. Just keep running the magnet until it comes back four or five times with NOTHING on it. Anything that might be left over sweeps through at start-up without damaging the turbine.

Also, get a good, deep center punch hole to start with. I didn't get a good punch mark, and the bit tried to walk. Scared the crap out of me.

Good luck. Not that bad, really.

I magnatized and greased both the drill bit and the tap. After that I used a small magnet to get the rest out and fired it right up with no trouble at all. I have done two this way.

I always take the turbo off and stuff a rag up the manifold since it's so darn easy. It also makes it easier to check the depth of your probe. The chances of shavings messing up your turbo are slim but they are there none the less. I have personally known two people who have had their turbo jam with a small cutting in-between the turbo housing and impeller with the magnet method. No damage if caught right away, the cutting can be released by removing the inlet air tube and turning the turbo backwards.
