OK - when you look at the Eaton site... .

Suretrac

1st - which of these products are available for our TRucks?

2nd there are many options - WHY doesn't somebody at EATON or here on the TDR contact Eaton and have a real world test of these. I get confusing results - and then there's Powertrax and ARB.....

YouTube - Eaton Locking Differential Demonstration

powertrax

YouTube - Difference btw. Locker and Limited Slip

I can't tell you how POOR these rigs do even with chains on and these open differentials - they are almost freaking worthless. BELIEVE me I have a short hill that I had to use low range to descend (weight would make rig go to fast) - with about 8-10 inches of snow and slick conditions - I had chains on the front and if I stopped I could not back up - I tested it - BUT my wife's FREAKING SUBARU Forester COULD   without a wheel spin - FREAKING EMBARASSING!!! #@$%!And re,e,ber this is with HD Chains on the front END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then on level ground in a parkiong lot with 4-6 " and a semi heavy crust ( if you walked on it you would break through) - STUCK and a mess on LEVEL GROUND - NO Chains - these are FREAKING WORTHLESS!!!! #@$%!

OK - what can we do - TDR needs to help us with a REAL TEST in the MAG - this is something most of us need real answers to... . and I would like to see tests with a variety NOT only on bad conditions but summer off road and real road --- and a comparisson of tradeoff's... . PLEASE HELP US!!!!!

So which do you want?

Tastes better or less filling?

Subaru AWD (all wheel drive) gives each wheel exactly the amount of torque and rotation needed.

No reason that can't be engineered into diesel PU's but the added drive train weight in components and cost and R&D and you'd be into HUMMER category.

How many HUMMERS you see out there towing 5th wheel, travel trailers, hay wagons, snow plowing, ect, ect?

Category wise our diesel PU's do well in cost/benefit/pleasure return on investment.

You could spend huge $$$$ on aftermarket upgrades but you won't get Subaru AWD functionality.

You want AWD, start with blank sheet of paper and lots of $$$$.

I have found that tires make all the difference in the world over being locked up in ice and snow. The ATs on my open diff truck and cherokee have always outdone my fully spooled CJ5 in the same road type conditions. Offroad the spools win hands down in snow, but in what I think you are describing tires with good sipping will take you where you need to go. I only find chains any help in digging into ice, not in snow.

Also the Subaru has nice even weight distribution, our trucks do NOT, mine has 4500 lb on front axle and 2500 on the rear... ...
