Hey Guys,

I have an issue that just showed up a few weeks ago. When the truck idles for a few minutes it smokes a fuel smoke. I finally check the codes and it showed p0111. The Code reads Idle Air Control Circuit/Performance. The Code Reader would not clear as it states this is a "Hard Code" and cannot clear until it is corrected. Is this code referring to the MAP Sensor. If so where is it located. Sorry to be so ignorant but I have never worked on a Diesel. Just now have adjusted the valves for the first time on the Diesel. I have only have experience on Gasoline Engines.

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott. According to my powertrain manual P0111 is "Intake temperature sensor rationality". This would be a super-easy fix. The IAT sensor is located atop the air box outlet tube. It's the only electrical component on the entire inlet system, so you can't miss it. Just unplug it, remove, and replace. Piece of cake.

Once you replace it, the code reader should be able to clear it. If not, the code will disappear on it's own after 40 consecutive warmup cycles (the MIL will go out after 3 warmups without the code reappearing).

I'd take a picture of the sensor for you, but it's cold outside and I'm being chased by wolves.

Thank You !!!!!!!!!

rbattelle,

Hey Man,

Thanks. . Yeah I seen that sensor and did not know if that was it. I really appreciate the response. Watch out for the wolves and stay away from Grandma's house ... . lol... . :D

BTW, that wolves quote was from Abraham (Grandpa) Simpson. I wasn't actually being chased by wolves. Everyone can stop worrying now.
