I really hope to find the answer to this. 2011 ram 6.7 bought the truck and it already had been deleted and has a tune(I have no idea what tune unfortunately). The issue that I'm having is the code P040D. I have tried to clear it and the only way is to disconnect the batteries but then the code will pop back up after a day or so. I can definitely feel and hear when the problem comes back before I even see the code after scanned. The truck feels sluggish almost like the E/B is engaged - takes more gas pedal to get her going - shift harder at times - when trying to accelerate it just kind of bogs instead of down shifting - if I stand at the front of the truck you can hear a rattling or kind of a knocking almost like a bad lifter sound more so on the passenger side. When I disconnect the batteries over night and start it, drive it. Everything is good no rattle, no code, no surging feeling while drive(happens while driving under light load - cruising). Drives like a dream.
I have read countless topics of others having this exact problem but haven't seen the one that has found the Holy Grail to the P040D code. I know there are diesel gods out there that this is a walk in the park for them. Please help......

The code P040D Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor; A Circuit High is set by the ECM when there is a detected a high electrical value within the EGR Temperature Sensor. Causes of a P040D code are: Defective or damaged EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation).

So, how was the EGR system disabled on the truck if you know ? I know MADS (Smarty) gave explicit instructions on how to disable the EGR system so, you code run code free.

What you may need to do is re-load the tune if available? To see if this solves your issue! If not you might need to install a new programmer with a tune from Race ME or EFILive or something similar! The new software and instructions from the manufacture should eliminate your problem.

Won't he need a new/reman ECM as well??

No; I don't think so, since he should be able to install the new tune right over the old tune that is already on the ECM. I would verify this with the customer support team from Race Me or EFILIVE to make sure!

The reason why the factory tune is captured on the Smarty is so you can return the truck to factory settings if you want to! I know my one son use to do this to his 2006, 5.9L truck all the time when he went to the dealer for a recall. This way the dealer would not screw up the Smarty tune if they had to do something to the truck.
