HELP!! Paint chipping off my new truck!!...

truck is only 6 months old, and while washing it yesterday I saw that paint was chipping off below drivers door! A series of chips about 4 inches long! At first I htought it was where gravel might have kicked up, but judging the angle it cant be, and there's none on passenger side. Looks terrrible! I have pictures, but nowhere to post. Anyway I can post them here? Somebody please help!

Sorry paint on mine too.

I have quite a few chips on mine from driving gravel roads. But, at the last washing I noticed that they are much worse (down to the metal) on the passenger side. This is not right. What kind of warrantee does DC offer on paint? 10mo old with 30K.

Hopefully this picture will work, hoping yall can look at it and tell me my best course of action.

Another

Here you can see it by looking just to the right. At the angle where the scratches are, there's no way it's from gravel.

Silver?

My pickup is silver too. This paint is crap. I have more scratches on this one than I had on my 97 with 150K on it. I was much less carefull with the old 97 too. I am going to call the dealership and see how they respond.

Dilema

My real dilema is do I take it back and have them repaint that panel only? I'd rather them go ahead and repaint the whole truck, but what chance do I have at that? What about touching this up? Looks like it'd be a tough job. Appreciate any advice y'all can offer as to my best course of action.

Yea, their gonna' paint what ever they feel nessesary, and nothin' more. Unless you know someone at the dealer, then who knows. But bein' that new I would definatly have them do something.

I feel your pain

I had a similar problem with my truck, it nicks with anything I took it back to the dealer and called Dodge and they said sorry they dont warranty against stone chips so I just touch them up I think I have about thirty of them know its really annoying if anyone turns up anything good please let me know!

If the dealer is only planning on painting that panel, you might want to have the rockers coated with Line-X or another sprayed in bedliner.

Another option would be taking it to a body shop and having them coat the rockers with rocker panel coating and re-painted. I've done that on mine and it still looks great.

Pics are on my website in my signature.

After you get the chips fixed up, go to

www.clearbra.net

and look for the location of where you can have it installed. it is a clear cover that is 12mil. thick and can take a rock at 80mph and not chip. I think a quote was like $3-400 for the panels from the front wheel to the back of bed.

I'm going to ask a dumb question here

Did you guys not get the chip-resistant paint from the factory. It was an option but was only about 100 bucks I think. I have it on my 99 and run a mud tire and travel a lot of gravel roads and don't have any chips close to looking like that on mine. the worst chip I've ever gotten was right at the top of the rear passenges side fender on the bed. That chipp went down to bare metal but I fixed it with a little touch up paint. :) I think something could be wrong with the paint, maybe you should take it to a bodyshop and have them take a look at it and see what they say.

Just my opinion

Thought I had that option, if it was available on 01. 5's. But I don't think it was from gravel. If you look at the angle, there's no way it coulda been from something flying up, not only that but there's not one chip outta the nerf bars, on either side. Pi$$ poor paint job, IMO. Another ?... if I have to fix it myself (wish is likely, knowing local stealer), what is the best way to go about doing it? Never had to before. Thanks.

You don't have it so bad

Don't know if this applies to you but may help others http://peelingpaint.homestead.com/ This picture is how the hood of my '95 Ram is starting to look, after warranty of course. I've had square foot areas come off at once.
