Hi, my name is Sepp, I'm a german tdr-member.

I have a '97 2500 from Canada. I have the truck since 1 Year and now I have 50. 000km on it and I would like to check the Valve clearance. I have a Haynes Repair Manual, but can't find the clearance datas for the 5. 9 Cummins engine. Please could somebody help me, because there is no Dodge-Dealer in Germany who I can ask.

Would be great if somebody can help me - and would be greater if you can told me the clearance for intake and exhaust in metric... .

If you like to have a look at me and my truck see under Readers Rig "German Redneck".

My email adress is: red@timeprofile. de.

Thanks a lot and excuse my bad american language!

Welcome Sepp, no need to apoligize, your American is much better than my German.

In inchs, it's . 010 on the intake and . 020 on the exhaust. I'll look up a conversion factor to metric and be back in a bit.

Ronnie

OK, intake clearance is . 25mm,

exhaust is . 51mm

valve adjustment

JFottner,

My 96 shop manual gives the following information.

Intake 0. 254mm (0. 010 inch)

Exhaust 0. 508mm (0. 020 inch)

Tighten the valve adjusting nuts to 24 N. m (18 ft. lbs. ) torque.

I do not think there is any different specifications in this area for a 97 truck.

Good luck, John
