Where is the speaker amp located? I'm putting in an Alpine 7894 and S634. The 7894 puts out 27WRMS per channel and I would expect this to be too much imput to the onboard amp.

Any suggestions for upgrading the stock Infinity speakers?

I'm running 2 8" subs on a 40w amp. This is a '94 standard cab.

Thanks!

The factory system uses amps attached to the speakers! You'll have to replace them all in order to run a 'normal' head unit.

I bought boston acoustic speakers and for the moment, I put the factory amps on the new speakers, still sounds like crap but the fronts are better. I plan on using the factory head, converting the wires to RCA plugs to go to a 4 ch amp and then to the 4 speakers. It is a $200 operation but should make it soud a whole lot better

cpaulson,

I just put in the Alpine 7894 in my 2002 with the Infinity sound system and it really sounds good. So do the home made CDRs!

:) :) :)

cpaulson,

I assume you meant a 400 watt amp and not a 40w!

I used the stock head unit and swapped out all the speakers with MB Quart. I'm running 2 PPI amps (roughly 1300 watts - clean) in a custom box under the rear seat. 2 8" square subs pound out the bass. I've also added a lot of sound deadening material (Dynomat Extreme) to the doors and rear wall of the cab. The best part is that the job is totally stealth. No one can tell that any work was done by looking at the truck - unless you lift up the back seat. Actually, the best part is turning on the stereo and watching their reaction!
